On July 3rd, the opening ceremony of the "Remembering heroes: The Flying Tigers Historical Photo Exhibitionin Guangdong" (Guangzhou Station) and the awarding ceremony of Guangdong's first batch of Flying Tigers Friendship Schools were held at the Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The exhibition particularly highlights Guangdong's unique role in Flying Tigers history. Over 1,400 American youth from Taishan, Guangdong, who joined the Flying Tigers and returned to China to participate in the war. In 1944, Guangdong's military and civilian forces, represented by the Dongjiang Column of Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Aggression Guerrilla Force, successfully rescued Flying Tigers members and cooperated with the US Pacific Command in anti-Japanese naval operations.
"Eighty years ago, the people of China and the US fought side by side and won. This means that whether in the past, present, or future, as long as China and the US work together, success is within reach. Through this exhibition, we hope to remind people of the friendship built on mutual respect," said Jeffrey Greene, chairman of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation.
In recent years, the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, in collaboration with Chinese partners, has launched the "Remembering Heroes: Flying Tigers Photo Exhibition Tour" in China and the Flying Tigers Friendship Schools and Youth Leadership Program. Currently, one-third of the nationwide tour is complete. Over 70 schools across 25 Chinese provinces and 33 US schools have joined the Flying Tigers Friendship School program, engaging nearly one million students combined from both nations.
