Recently, a video of an international student delivering a commencement speech in fluent Mandarin, even including some Cantonese, has gone viral online. The speaker is Doki, a Serbian student from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), who is also a "long-time friend" of Yangcheng Evening News. In her speech, she specifically mentioned her experience filming for the iSeeChina series, saying, "By visiting Chinese enterprises, I saw how 'Made in China' brings convenience to daily life. The self-driving taxis in Nansha and China's self-developed tunnel boring machines deeply impressed me."
Reflecting on her time filming for the iSeeChina series, Doki said, "What attracted me the most was the opportunity to personally experience China's culture and technology. Each filming session allowed me to discover a different side of China." One of the most unforgettable experiences was visiting a tunnel boring machine factory. This is her first time seeing these machines up close. She was astonished to learn that these Chinese-made devices are not only widely used in China but also exported to various countries, contributing to major global infrastructure projects. "These 'steel dragons' are truly impressive!" she exclaimed.
Doki added that she plans to continue studying Chinese at GDUFS and hopes to gain practical experience in the business field. "I look forward to staying in China and applying the cross-cultural communication skills I've learned at school to real-world work," she said.
