Guangdong launches 2025 'Weight Management Year'

The 2025 "Weight Management Year" in Guangdong officially kicked off. On the morning of March 23rd, Guangzhou's Huacheng Square transformed into a health education hub as it launched the "Scientific Weight Control, Energizing for the 15th National Games" event. The Health Commission of Guangdong Province, in collaboration with 16 other departments including education and sports, showcased Guangdong's innovative achievements in healthy weight management and advocated for scientific weight management practices among the public.

Lin Lifeng, Chief Scientist in Public Health at the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, revealed that monitoring data in 2023 indicated an adult overweight and obesity rate of 49.4% in Guangdong, slightly below the national average of 50.7%. Notably, over the past three years, the obesity rate among primary and secondary school students in Guangdong has risen from 8.37% to 8.61%, with the highest rate in primary schools and a significant increasein high schools, warranting urgent attention.

At the event, 34-year-old programmer Mr. Wang, participated in a "Food Guide Pagoda" puzzle guided by nutritionists, only to realize that his favorite Lao Huo Tang (slow-simmered Cantonese soup) contained double the recommended sodium intake. Meanwhile, Ms. Li, standing before a body composition analyzer, reflected on her report, "A 28% body fat rate—no wonder I’m always out of breath climbing stairs." Dr. Chen Chaogang, director of the Clinical Nutrition Departmentat SunYat-sen Memorial Hospital, reminded the public at the free consultation, "Men with a waist circumference over 90 cm and women over 85 cm should be cautious of potential health risks."

Olympic champion Luo Yutong emphasized the importance of consistent physical activity, advising adults to engage in at least five days of moderate-intensity exercise per week, such as brisk walking or jogging, for over 30 minutes each session, totaling no less than 150 minutes weekly. He also encouraged the public to increase their daily activity levels through walking, cycling, and household chores.

Experts educate the public on balanced diets

This event not only showcased Guangdong's achievements in building a "comprehensive health care services" ecosystem but also marked the beginning of this nationwide initiative. The achievements include the health department introducing the "10,000 Steps Challenge" program to promote the "Cantonese Dietary Pattern"; the education system mandating at least two hours of daily physical activity for primary and secondary school students; and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) leveraging digital equipment in "Health Cabins" and "Health Canteens" to tailor personalized weight management plans for employees.

2025年广东“体重管理年”:一场全民行动的序章

2025年广东“体重管理年”正式启航。3月23日上午,广州花城广场变身健康课堂,“科学控体重 活力迎全运”活动启动,广东省卫生健康委联合教育、体育等16个部门,展示广东省在健康体重管理领域的创新成果,倡导全民科学体重管理理念。

广东省疾控中心公共卫生领域首席科学家林立丰表示,2023年监测数据显示,广东成人超重肥胖率为49.4%,略低于全国水平50.7%。值得注意的是,过去三年,全省中小学生肥胖率从8.37%上升至8.61%,其中小学阶段最高,高中阶段虽最低但增长明显,需重点关注。

活动现场,34岁的程序员王先生在营养师指导下拼接“膳食宝塔”拼图,惊讶地发现“老火汤”盐分超标两倍。体成分分析仪前,李女士拿着报告若有所思:“体脂率28%,难怪爬楼梯总喘气。”同时,中山大学孙逸仙纪念医院临床营养科主任陈超刚在义诊区提醒市民:“男性腰围超90厘米、女性超85厘米需警惕健康风险。”   

奥运冠军罗玉通则强调,规律运动重在坚持,建议成年人每周至少进行五天中等强度运动,如快走、慢跑,每次30分钟以上,总时长不少于150分钟。他还鼓励公众通过步行、骑行、家务劳动等方式增加日常活动量。
这场健康盛宴,既是广东构建“大健康”生态圈的成果展示,也是又一场全民行动的序章。卫健部门推出“万步有约”打卡计划,推广《岭南膳食模式》;教育系统要求保障中小学生每日体育活动不少于2小时;疾控部门依托“健康小屋”“健康食堂”数字化设备,为职工制定个性化体重管理方案。
