At the beginning of the new semester, multiple universities in Guangdong announced the completion of the localized deployment of the DeepSeek-R1 model in their education systems amid the wave of artificial intelligence (AI). By integrating this AI model developed by China into teaching, research, administration, and campus services, these institutions have ushered in a new stage of AI's deep application in education.
Sun Yat-sen University's Network and Information Center, in collaboration with China Mobile, launched an exclusive version of DeepSeek-R1 to support faculty and students in learning and research. South China University of Technology (SCUT) deployed the full-scale DeepSeek-R1 on its "Chengwu" scientific computing platform. As a key node of China Education and Research Network in South China, it not only meets the university’s needs but also provides backend shared services to other institutions in the province through the education network. Jinan University and South China Normal University have also completed their deployments and are gradually making them accessible. The latter has integrated DeepSeek into the Ministry of Education's Collaborative Enhancement Program for Teacher Education, promoting the intelligent transformation of education.
Guangdong University of Technology has completed its deployment and upgraded its network AI assistant, developing multiple smart education applications while optimizing costs with its in-house team. Guangdong University of Finance and Economics deployed the full-scale DeepSeek, introduced an AI assistant, and built a knowledge base to enhance teaching innovation. Guangdong Medical University, in partnership with Huawei, developed a specialized AI model for the medical field, achieving breakthroughs in the "AI + Healthcare" sector. Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University integrated DeepSeek into the education industry's innovation and application center, with plans to establish an "education intelligence platform" in the future. Shenzhen University, also collaborating with Huawei, launched the full-scale version of DeepSeek and plans to connect it to a university knowledge base, fostering interdisciplinary innovation.
Additionally, several universities, including The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), and private institutions have also completed their deployments. For example, Guangzhou College of Applied Science and Technology became the first private university in Guangzhou to implement this model, while Guangzhou City University of Technology partnered with Chaoxing Group to establish an AI capability center.
On January 20th, DeepSeek launched the DeepSeek-R1 model, which surpassed 100 million users within just seven days of release. A professor from SCUT noted that since the release of GPT-3.5 in 2022, the education sector has been actively exploring AI-related discussions and applications. The availability of independently controllable large-scale AI models is crucial for education, and DeepSeek effectively meets this demand. According to statistics, all 42 universities connected to SCUT's DeepSeek backend have completed localized deployment of the model in their education systems.

中山大学网络与信息中心联合中国移动打造“DeepSeek-R1专享版”,向师生开放助力学习科研。华南理工大学基于“成务”科学计算平台部署满血版DeepSeek-R1,作为教科网华南节点,不仅满足本校需求,还通过教育专网等为省内院校提供后端共享服务。暨南大学、华南师范大学也完成部署并将有序开放,后者还接入教育部师范教育协同提质计划平台,推动教育智能化发展。
广东工业大学完成部署并升级网络AI助手,基于高性能平台由自有团队完成,节省成本资源,还开发多个智慧教育应用。广东财经大学部署“满血版DeepSeek”,推出AI助手并建知识库,助力教学创新。广东医科大学与华为打造医学垂直领域大模型,在“AI+医疗”赛道实现跨越。广东技术师范大学将DeepSeek接入教育行业信创适配中心,未来打造“教育智能体平台”。深圳大学联合华为上线满血版,未来接入校本知识库,赋能学科交叉创新。
此外,香港科技大学(广州)等多所高校及部分民办院校也完成部署。如广州应用科技学院成为广州首个部署该模型的民办高校,广州城市理工学院与超星集团打造AI能力中心。
2025年1月20日DeepSeek推出DeepSeek-R1模型,发布7天内用户破亿。华南理工大学教授称,自2022年GPT-3.5发布后,教育系统就开展了人工智能相关研讨与应用探索,自主可控的大模型对教育意义重大,DeepSeek正满足了这一需求。据统计,接入华工DeepSeek后端的42所高校都已完成了教育系统本地化部署。
