On February 5th, Guangdong held its annual High-Quality Development Conference, where the province's industrial "inventory" was revealed for the first time. The conference proposed eight major actions to build a modern industrial system, emphasizing the consolidation of traditional advantageous industries while accelerating the cultivation of emerging and future industries. Special focus was placed on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, to create new industrial pillars that are high-tech, high-growth, and large-scale.

At the sub-forum on "The Development of Strategic Emerging Industries," Xu Bin, Deputy Director of the Innovation-Driven Development Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, noted that the new round of technological revolution is reshaping the global economy. For future industry development, it is crucial to focus on the early layout of funding, talent, and regulation. He believes that the AI economic era will drive the scaling up of services, such as AI doctors, AI nutritionists, and humanoid robots. Innovative management will determine the extent of their adoption.

Liu Wei, Chairman of PCI Tech, emphasized, "Looking to the future, core technologies must be independently controllable. We need to reduce dependence on foreign technologies, especially in high-performance computing, deep learning frameworks, and AI chips."

Humanoid robots became a focal point at the conference. The "Li Dian D1" displayed by Guangzhou Ligong Industry Co., Ltd., attracted much attention. Li Weichong, the company's president, introduced that 38% of the global supply chain enterprises for humanoid robots are in China, with 57% of them located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Leng Xiaokun, Chairman of Leju (Shenzhen) Robotics, mentioned that the first large-size humanoid robot developed by the company in 2018 had a cost of 3 million yuan, with key components entirely imported. Now, the domestication rate has reached 90%, and the price has dropped to a few hundred thousand yuan. He attributed this change to the rapid development of the robot industry chain in Guangdong and across the country.

Wu Hong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province, revealed that in 2024, Guangdong's industrial robot output reached 246,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 31.2%, accounting for 44% of the national total. Moving forward, Guangdong will accelerate the construction of innovation platforms for embodied intelligent robots and promote the deep integration of AI with manufacturing.
