The 2025 Spring Festival will be the first one after its inscribing as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In preparation for the festival, various consumption seasons, goods fairs, and "old-for-new" exchange activities have already begun. In Guangzhou, whether it's ongoing or upcoming events, you can find elements of folk customs and intangible cultural heritage products everywhere.

On January 20th, the exhibition for the Chinese New Year of the Snake opened at Guangzhou Taikoo Hui. For this Spring Festival exhibition, guangzhou Taikoo Hui specially selected Cantonese opera, a gem of Lingnan culture, and partnered with Guangdong Pearl River Film Group and Zeng Xiaomin, the director of the Guangdong Yueju Opera Theater. Together, they created a Cantonese opera cultural-themed exhibition. Through various media forms of visual expression, the exhibition showcases the collision and fusion of the audiovisual aesthetics of the Cantonese opera film "White Snake" and Lingnan opera art.

Young artist Wu Ming was invited to design the exhibition space. With his creative vision, the South Glass Box on Level 3 of Taikoo Hui was transformed into a Cantonese space filled with the beauty of Eastern artistic expression. Through a clever combination of real and virtual elements in the spatial design, wu Ming vividly recreated scenes from the film "White Snake." Additionally, the exhibition incorporated various visual images, exquisite costumes, interactive Cantonese opera songs, as well as precious point-cut jade jewelry used in opera stages and film manuscripts, allowing the public to engage in a deep dialogue with the splendid history of Cantonese opera spanning several centuries.

Guangzhou Grandbuy is focusing on the first "Intangible Cultural Heritage Spring Festival" by creating cultural experiences that are rich in traditional characteristics. At the Grandbuy Beijing Road store, the New Year installations feature the Chinese knot as a cultural and tourism key, allowing customers to not only purchase New Year goods but also experience various intangible cultural heritage activities. In the Huanshi East business circle, guangzhou Friendship Group is hosting the "New Year Goods Festival," where the "Joyous New Year Lantern Display" will soon shine, symbolizing a prosperous and vibrant celebration of the new year.

In Tianhe District, a key cultural checkpoint at Link Plaza Tianhe has also been set up. The southwest corner of the Pingchuan Night Lane outdoor street area has creatively added several check-in spots themed around Cantonese culture, featuring elements such as "Guangzhou" And "Yuejiangyuedian (The more you speak Cantonese, the better)". From January 15th to January 27th, the plaza has teamed up with the nearby Xiancun Street and the Four Blessing Gods IP to host the "Joyful Spring Festival Market Events." the market features various stalls offering traditional folk snacks, intangible cultural heritage crafts, unique goods, and fun games. It's a vibrant fusion of national style, national trends, and the flavors of the Chinese New Year.

During the Spring Festival, consumers have an even stronger desire for surprises, and the traditional "staple items" for New Year goods are no longer the only focus. An increasing variety of global foods are now appearing on supermarket shelves in Guangzhou. Particularly noteworthy is the arrival of numerous shipments of Chilean cherries. Unlike in previous years when the premium JJJ-grade Chilean cherries were priced at nearly 200 yuan per kilogram, this year, they have been dramatically reduced to 53.8 yuan. Prices for cherries of all grades have generally dropped by over a third compared to last year. The cherry, once seen as a luxury item, has now become one of the most popular New Year goods recently.
