To enhance communication between media in China and Indonesia, a group of reporters from four major Indonesian media outlets embarked on a five-day thematic tour of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) from October 31st to November 4th, invited by Yangcheng Evening News Group.

On October 31st, the third phase of the 136th Canton Fair opened, and the visiting Indonesian reporters promptly arrived at the Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center (Canton Fair)to cover this well-known trade fair in Southeast Asia.

The scale of the canton fair is astonishing

On the morning of October 31st, the Indonesian reporters visited the Canton Fair. Neli, the regional news department head of Indonesia's largest newspaper, Kompas, noted that this was her second visit to China, having previously traveled to Hong Kong. Guangzhou marks her first trip to the Chinese mainland.

Upon entering the exhibition hall, Neli was overwhelmed by the scale of the Canton Fair,"The size of the exhibition and the variety of products are truly impressive. This must be the largest exhibition I've ever attended." She expressed excitement at the opportunity to personally report on the event, which is highly recognized in Indonesia.

The Indonesian reporters first explored the Canton Fair Design Award area. The awards aim to recognize outstanding design value in Chinese export products, showcasing several award-winning items from this year's selection. The latest developments in China's high-end manufacturing left a strong impression on the three reporters.

Innovative tech products such as smart bionic hands, electric bicycles, smart massage chairs, ultra-thin wall-mounted TVs, and AI Go robots captivated reporters. Everyday essentials like dishes, kitchenware, furniture, and luggage, with their practical yet attractive designs, also drew their admiration.

In the Canton Fair Design Award area, Wenda from Indonesia's Sixth News Network was particularly taken with an electric coffee grinder, "I've never used a coffee grinder in Indonesia. This coffee machine has such a convenient design!" Although Indonesia is famous for its coffee exports, she usually brews coffee directly with hot water. She believes that fresh-ground coffee could significantly enhance the coffee experience in Indonesia if such innovations become widespread.

'Made in China' benefits Indonesian consumers

This phase of the Canton Fair, themed "Better Life," featured five major sectors: toys and maternity products, fashion, home textiles, stationery, and health and leisure, across 21 exhibition areas. At a plush toy booth from Jiangsu province, the Indonesian reporters spent considerable time learning about the company and its products, with staff emphasizing that Southeast Asia is a crucial market for them.

Ricky, a reporter from the Indonesian online media outlet "Coil Web", remarked that he had never attended such a large-scale exhibition before. The vast array of goods at the Canton Fair broadened his horizons. "Two products left a lasting impression on me. The first is a smart bionic hand designed for people with disabilities; the second is a material used for the exterior walls of buildings that can reduce emissions by 90%, which is excellent for environmental protection. I interviewed a representative from an exhibiting company, who was very optimistic about the product's prospects in the global market. I think Indonesian businessmen could learn from this attitude. In Indonesia, some still believe that products from Chinese products are of low quality, but witnessing the high quality of these Chinese products here, alongside their competitive pricing, has changed my perspective," Ricky said.

Both Neli and Wenda noted that many Chinese-made products, such as automobiles, electronics, and clothing, are prevalent in the Indonesian market, covering various aspects of daily life.

The Canton Fair brings together exhibitors and buyers from around the world. At the event, the Indonesian reporters met buyers from their "hometown" who had come to procure medical equipment. Neli remarked, "The Canton Fair not only promotes high-quality Chinese products to the world but also facilitates the entry of numerous 'Made in China' items into Indonesia, benefiting the Indonesian people."

In the coming days, Indonesian mainstream media reporters will visit high-tech companies such as BYD, GAC Aion, EHang, Intellifusion, Pony.ai, and the Phase IV of Nansha Port, a fully automated terminal, as well as landmarks like Canton Tower and the Greater Bay Area Art Center, to fully experience the charm of this innovative and vibrant Bay Area.
