On June 2, 42 dragon boats from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area participated in a spectacular dragon boat display and race in Shilou Town, Panyu District. Among them, a mixed team of Chinese and foreign participants became an eye catcher. The Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Team included foreign members from various countries such as the UK, Jordan, Poland, Japan, South Korea and etc. They temporarily joined the Guangzhou Hengzhi Team and played against other dragon boat teams from Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhongshan, Xinhui, and local teams from Panyu District, delivering a thrilling display of speed and excitementahead of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Doki, a Serbian student from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, watched the entire dragon boatrace with reporters from Yangcheng Evening News and learned about the team's stories with dragon boating in Guangzhou. Stone, the captain of the Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Team, explained that the team was founded in 1998, and the majority of its members are foreigners working in Guangzhou. Speaking of dragon boating in China,David, the team manager from the UK, expressed that every sport requires team spirit, community, cooperationand competition, which are stronger with dragon boating. Despite the diverse language environments and cultural backgrounds, they are all one team when joining the dragon boat race. "When you are inthat boat, you feel like you are part of the Chinese community, and part of China," said David.
Ma Cheongrong, a member from South Korea, is over fifty years old but continues to participate in dragon boating, which has made him physically stronger. He remarked that dragon boating, unlike individual sports, emphasizes team spirit. "I think this embodies the Chinese spirit."
Jakub from Poland also expressed his fascination with China's rich dragon boat tradition, noting that every dragon boat reflects customs, heritage, ethnic integration, and cultural depth of China. "For us foreigners, it’s a great occasion to really get involved in it," he said.

6月2日,来自粤港澳大湾区的42艘龙船在番禺石楼镇举行了彩龙竞艳和龙舟竞渡,一支中外“混血”的队伍格外显眼。原来,广州国际友人龙舟队部分来自英国、约旦、波兰、日本、韩国等多个国家的多名外籍队员也参加了此次活动。他们临时加入广州恒志队,与来自香港、广州、深圳、东莞、佛山、中山、新会等地及番禺本土的其他龙舟队上演了一场端午节前的“速度与激情”。
来自广东外语外贸大学的塞尔维亚籍留学生Doki与羊城晚报记者一起全程观摩了他们的比赛过程,了解他们在广州与龙舟结缘的故事。广州国际友人龙舟队队长何伟东告诉记者,广州国际友人龙舟队创立于1998年,大多数队员都是在广州工作的外国人。谈到在中国参与龙舟运动的感受,来自英国的领队David表示,每项运动都需要团队精神、团结合作和竞技精神,而这些精神在龙舟运动上展现得更加淋漓尽致。尽管队员们的语言环境和文化背景各不相同,但在划龙舟时他们就是一个团队。“当你在龙舟上的时候,你会觉得自己融入了当地民众,融入了中国。”David说。
来自韩国的队员马成龙已年过五十,但仍一直坚持划龙舟,龙舟运动让他身体变得更强壮。他说,龙舟运动不同于个人运动,更注重团队精神。他说:“我想这就是中华的精神。”
来自波兰的Jakub也表示,中国悠久的龙舟传统文化也深深吸引着他,在每一条龙舟上都能看到风俗、传承、民族融合、文化底蕴的影子。“对于我们外国人来说,这是一个真正体验中国传统的好机会。”
