As the May Day holiday draws to a close, the enthusiasm for travel remains unabated. According to preliminary estimates from the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, from May 1st to May 3rd, 150 key scenic spots in Guangdong Province received a total of 7.919 million visitors, an increase of 4.7% compared to 2019. Additionally, 75 key public cultural institutions received 523,000 visitors, marking a 1.7% increase year-on-year.

With the Canton Fair overlapping with the May Day holiday, major tourist attractions and scenic spots in Guangdong were fully booked. Economy-related data continued to rise during the holiday, vividly illustrating the surge in tourist flow and demonstrating the earning potential of Guangdong's cultural tourism market.

Handling the surge in tourist flow requires sincere efforts to cater to visitors. This year, Guangdong launched the "Enjoy Your May Day in Guangdong" series of activities. The newly established cultural landmark, the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center, opened to the public, becoming a popular destination for citizens and tourists to visit. Nearly 200 A-level tourist attractions offered a series of discounts and 400 themed activities. Various cultural and art troupes, cultural institutions and museums, and towns and villages meticulously organized distinctive folk cultural activities, including 56 high-quality cultural performances, 25 exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage projects, and 40 exhibitions and expos focused on cultural tourism.

Handling the surge in tourist flow also requires quality services. During the May Day holiday, Guangdong implemented measures such as extending opening hours and increasing flexible supply to enhance service capacity. Comprehensive inspections of the cultural tourism market were carried out across various regions to ensure the smooth and orderly operation of the market province-wide. Furthermore, data shows that in the first three days of the May Day holiday, 1.142 million visitors were received at 100 monitored rural tourist spots and historical villages in Guangdong.

Regarding the enthusiasm for cultural tourism activities during this May Day holiday, it is evident that Guangdong continues to innovate and promote the iteration and upgrading of tourism products, cultivate and expand new formats of tourism, and with thorough preparations, effectively handles the surging tourist flow.
