#TheGreatBeautyofGuangdong Nearly 100,000 people from famous towns in Guangdong including Kaiping and Taishan live overseas. And watchtowers scattered across towns and villages of the province are courtyards constructed combining Chinese and Western styles. They were built by many overseas Chinese who love their hometowns. Watchtowers, like stamps on the ground, represent nostalgia and overseas Chinese culture. In 2007, watchtowers and villages in Kaiping made it to the World Heritage List, becoming the first world cultural heritage in Guangdong.
开平、台山,著名的广东侨乡,有数十万人旅居海外。散落在各个乡镇村落的碉楼,正是众多侨居海外眷恋故土的人们,用心血建造的一座座中西合璧的庭院。一座座碉楼,犹如盖在大地上的印章,犹如耸立的乡愁,成为华侨文化的丰碑。2007年,开平碉楼与村落被列入《世界遗产名录》,成为广东省第一处世界文化遗产。
