On July 4th, the opening ceremony of the 2023 "Roots-seeking Journey in China · Charming Guangdong" summer camp (Phase I in Guangdong-Jinan University) was held in Guangzhou, hosted by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and organized by Guangdong Province Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and co-organized by the School of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University.

About 70 overseas Chinese teenagers and their group teachers from the United States, Serbia, and Venezuela, as well as representatives from the School of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University, gathered at the beautiful campus of Jinan University to enjoy a happy summer camp.

Yang Chunhua, Director of the Cultural Department of Guangdong Province Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, expressed his hope at the opening ceremony of the camp that the campers could experience and understand Chinese culture, learn about the development of science and technology in Guangdong and make friends from all over the world, thus promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and foreign countries.

Zhang Li, Vice Dean of the College of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University, introduced the development history of Jinan University in his speech. He hoped the campers could learn more languages to understand various cultures and continuously improve their cognitive level and language ability. Also, he welcomed all the campers to continue their further studies at Jinan University in the future.

At the opening ceremony, Xu Lingyu, the leader of the Chinese School Association in the United States (CSAUS) and the General Principal of the Atlanta Contemporary Chinese Academy (ACCA) in the United States, hopes that the campers can share their experience during this summer camp with their classmates and friends in their home countries, helping the world to have a better understanding of China and becoming little ambassadors for cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.

Yang Xiufeng, a camper from the United States and a future student at Stanford University, looks forward to participating in the summer camp. He said he has been to China several times before, and during these trips, he developed a strong interest in Chinese culture due to his exposure to the Chinese language.

Yang feels happy and is proud of the development of his ancestral country. He hopes to have the opportunity to participate in the roots-seeking summer camp again with his younger siblings in the future.

During the opening ceremony, campers and teachers enjoyed a performance of Chinese talents presented by overseas students like Indonesian and Malaysian students, which received thunderous applause.

It is reported that this summer camp will last for ten days, during which campers will learn Chinese dance, Chinese martial arts, and traditional Chinese etiquette. What's more, they need to communicate in Chinese and participate in cultural experience activities such as clay sculpture and tea art. During the summer camp, the campers will also visit cultural places with distinctive characteristics of Guangdong, such as the Folk Culture Village in Shenzhen and the Ancestral Temple in Foshan City, to appreciate the profound Chinese culture. They will also take the high-speed train in Guangzhou and visit science education bases to experience the unique charm of Guangdong's scientific and technological development.

这群海外华裔青少年来广东过暑假啦！

7月4日，由中国侨联主办，广东省侨联承办，暨南大学华文学院协办的2023“中国寻根之旅･风韵南粤”夏令营（广东暨大营一期）在广州举行开营仪式。

来自美国、塞尔维亚、委内瑞拉的海外华裔青少年及组团单位老师，暨南大学华文学院师生代表等约70人齐聚暨南大学美丽校园 ，共同为海外华裔青少年开启快乐夏令营的幸福时光。

广东省侨联文化部部长杨春华在开营仪式上表示，希望营员们用心体会，通过夏令营感受中华文化，了解广东科技发展，广交天下朋友，为促进中外文明交流互鉴、推动中外人文交流做贡献。

暨南大学华文学院副院长张礼在致辞中介绍了暨南大学发展历史，寄望营员们能够学习更多语言、了解多种文化，不断提升认知水平和语言能力，欢迎营员们未来到暨南大学继续学习深造。

开营仪式上，全美中文学校协会领队、美国亚特兰大现代中文学校总校长许凌渝希望营员们能够将此次夏令营的所见所闻分享给住在国的同学和朋友，帮助世界更好地了解中国，认识中国，成为中外文化交流的小使者。

来自美国的营员代表杨秀峰对参加活动充满期待，他说，自己曾多次来过中国。在中国期间，他因为接触中文从而激发了自己对中华文化的浓厚兴趣。

即将迈入斯坦福大学的杨秀峰为祖籍国的发展感到高兴和自豪，希望将来有机会能带着弟弟妹妹们再次参加寻根之旅夏令营活动。

在开营仪式举行期间，营员与老师们在活动现场共同欣赏了印尼、马来西亚等在华留学生表演的中华才艺，精彩的节目赢得满堂喝彩。

据悉，本次夏令营为期10天，营员们将学习中国舞蹈、中华武术及传统礼仪，进行汉语交流，参加泥塑、茶艺等文化体验活动。夏令营举行期间，营员们还将前往深圳、佛山等地参观中华民俗文化村、佛山祖庙等富有南粤特色的文化场所，领略博大精深的中华文化，还将乘坐广州高铁，走进科普研学基地，感受广东科技发展的独特魅力。
