On June 19th, with the completion of the final steel structure component, the newly constructed Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station reached its highest point and entered the phase of interior and exterior decoration. As one of Asia's largest TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) integrated transportation hubs, it is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.
Shaped like the Kapok flower, Guangzhou's city flower
Located in the southern part of Baiyun District in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station covers about 453,000 square meters. It adopts the design concept of "nestled by the Baiyun Mountain and the banks of the Pearl River, a picturesque scene unfolds as flowers bloom in full splendor". The station's steel structure consists of the roof, "petals", steel columns, and steel beams. The roof's steel structure weighs 8,100 tons, with a total area of 95,224 square meters, equivalent to the size of 13 standard football fields. The steel "petals" consist of curved columns with varying diameters, forming the Kapok flower of Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station. It boasts an impressive cantilever span of 28 meters and a total weight of 8,250 tons.
18 kinds of intelligent robots helped to construct the Station
According to reports, Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station is the first railway engineering project in China to extensively utilize robots for construction. It has so far employed 18 types of intelligent robots, including trackless all-position crawling welding robots, concrete leveling robots, floor finishing robots, and underground polishing robots.
These construction robots have demonstrated their capabilities at the construction site of the station, becoming a pilot case for the application of digitalization and artificial intelligence technologies in the construction industry.
Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station to be completed by the end of 2023
After the completion of Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station, it will serve as a hub for various transportation connections, including the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, and Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway, as well as six metro lines and other supporting facilities and public spaces. It will accommodate all conventional-speed trains from Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station, becoming one of Asia's largest TOD integrated transportation hubs. Upon alighting from the city's public transportation at the supporting urban transit interchange platform, passengers will be able to enter the Station and wait for trains in less than two minutes, with a walking distance of fewer than 100 meters. This achievement truly realizes seamless transfers and convenient connections.
It is reported that Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station is set to be completed by the end of 2023. The China Railway Guangzhou Group's transportation office is designing the route layout to optimize railway capacity and ensure the smooth acceptance of all conventional passenger rail services from Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station. This will further advance the process of "high-speed railways entering urban areas", address the capacity bottleneck of Guangzhou's railway hubs, and the station will play a greater role as a "catalyst" in realizing the "Greater Bay Area on Rails" and promoting the economic and social development of the Greater Bay Area.
