The 2023 Guangzhou Market Industry Development Conference, themed "Accelerating Market Optimization to Promote High-Quality Industrial Development", successfully kicked off on May 30th. It is reported that Guangzhou has selected 16 markets in seven advantageous industries as pilot areas for optimization and upgrading since 2022 to cultivate a batch of excellent markets as examples. They have provided experience and typical cases that can be replicated and promoted for their outstanding characteristics in commodity trade, strong service of industrial and supply chains, and integrated online-offline development.
16 markets selected for optimization pilot
Statistics show that in 2022, there were more than 500 professional markets in Guangzhou, and 112 markets with an annual turnover of more than 100 million yuan and a total transaction volume of over 200 billion yuan, forming an industrial cluster that leads in scale in China and even the world, which laid a foundation for optimizing and upgrading commodity markets.
It was also reported that Guangzhou has selected 16 markets in seven advantageous industries based on the characteristics of each district to carry out optimization pilot projects, developing new business models such as live streaming e-commerce, market procurement, and cross-border e-commerce, which achieved significant results in brand building, online-offline integration, and integrated development of import and export trade since 2022.
The following are typical examples in Guangzhou. First, the apM Times International Fashion City in Liwan District collaborated with its Korean counterparts in Dongdaemun District to transform into a one-stop supply base for all categories of fashion products by integrating resources. Second, Sanyuanli Handmade Leather Street in Baiyun District expanded new business models such as art experience for leather carving, innovatively creating a 3A-level pedestrian street with cultural, commercial, and tourism characteristics. Third, Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Market and Huangsha Aquatic Products Market developed and operated fresh e-commerce platforms, empowering merchants to expand their sales channels and accelerating the construction of projects like Huangsha New Aquatic Market and Jianggao Central Kitchen, which aims to create a new carrier for market innovation and development and optimizing the regional layout.
Specialized market improves the characteristic development of industrial clusters
Optimization and upgrading are important opportunities for markets and industries to help foster Guangzhou into an international consumption center, accelerate the interaction between industry and consumption and further seek a higher level of development. At present, Guangzhou's 510 professional markets are home to more than 160,000 merchants, where the concentration forms a good breeding ground for enterprises and brands to incubate.
At the same time, advantages in the market industry are leveraged to promote the characteristic development of industrial clusters. Currently, Guangzhou has established nine market procurement and trade pilot projects based on outward-oriented professional markets, guiding leading enterprises to take a new development path of specialization, outward orientation, and comprehensive service as well as combining the cultivation of new foreign trade business models with the transformation and upgrading of traditional professional wholesale markets.
For example, the jewelry industry in Panyu District, with a large scale of more than 11,000 market entities, accounts for over 50% of the international trade volume in jewelry selling, covering a complete industrial chain from design, processing, exhibition, brand cultivation, and integrated supply chain, which help promote the construction of the Capital of Fashion in Guangzhou, an undergoing project introduced key industries in the fields of clothing, leather goods and cosmetics.

据统计,2022年广州有专业市场500余家,亿元以上市场112家,亿元以上市场年交易额超2000亿元,形成了在全国乃至全球规模领先的产业集群,为商品市场优化升级奠定了基础。
据介绍,2022年以来,广州结合各区特点在七大优势行业选取16家市场开展优化试点,发展直播电商、市场采购、跨境电商等新业态,在品牌打造、线上线下融合、内外贸一体化发展等方面取得明显成效。
例如,荔湾区apM时代国际服装城与韩国东大门知名时尚公司对接合作,通过整合资源向时尚全品类一站式供应基地转型;白云区三元里手工皮具街拓展出皮雕艺术体验等新业态,创新打造3A级文商旅产业特色步行街;江南果菜市场、黄沙水产市场开发运行生鲜电商平台,赋能商户拓宽销售渠道,并同步加快黄沙新市场、江高中央大厨房项目建设,打造市场创新发展新载体,优化区域布局。
专业市场产业集群特色化发展
优化升级专项工作是市场行业助力广州国际消费中心城市培育建设,加快产业与消费互动,进一步谋求更高水平发展的重要机遇。目前广州510家专业市场集聚了超16万家商户,业态集聚构成了企业和品牌孵化的良好温床。
与此同时,市场行业立足自身优势,促进产业集群特色化发展。目前全市共设立了9个依托外向型专业市场的市场采购贸易方式试点,引导龙头企业走专业化、外向型和综合服务型的新发展路径,将培育外贸新业态与促进传统专业批发市场转型升级相结合。例如,番禺区珠宝产业规模大,拥有1.1万家市场主体,占国际珠宝市场贸易额的50%以上,涵盖设计、加工制造、展览、品牌培育、供应链整合等完备产业链,推动广州时尚之都建设。
