From May 18th to 19th, the culture camp themed “Explore China · Experience Chinese Medicine” was held in Guangzhou, sponsored by China Scholarship Council and organized by Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine in collaboration with South China University of Technology, South China Agricultural University, South China Normal University, and Guangzhou Medical University.
This event is set to introduce and promote traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to more international friends, enhance the development and popularity of TCM, and deepen and share the understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and spirit.
Experience the power of TCM in the story of anti-malaria by artemisia annua
Lei Fa, a Chilean doctoral student from the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine who won the Chinese government scholarship, gave a speech as the student representative. He shared how he learn traditional Chinese medicine. Twenty three years ago, he began learning Chinese martial arts and became attached to Chinese culture. After 9 years of studying Chinese and pursuing a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sports Science, he came to Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine to pursue a PhD in 2022. He hopes to learn more about traditional Chinese medicine prevention and treatment through this activity.
The first stop of the camp is a traditional Chinese medicine cultural lecture named “Traditional Chinese Medicine Boosts Anti-malaria” brought by a post-doctor Wu Wanting from Artemisia Annua Center at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Then, students personally made Artemisia annua bookmarks under the guidance of professional teachers.
Zeng Jiali, a Panamanian student from the South China University of Technology, said that she had been exposed to traditional Chinese medicine since she was in Panama. Her grandmother was Chinese and often boiled traditional Chinese medicine for herwhen she was sick as a child.
Traditional Chinese medicine is like “magic”, said Wu Liangsheng, a Malaysian student of Class 2020 from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicinemajoring in traditional Chinese medicine. He shared that there are also many traditional Chinese medicine clinics in Malaysia, and he often visits when he is sick.
Visit museums, hospitals, and pharmaceutical enterprises to appreciate the charm of TCM
Students visited the Guangdong Chinese Medicine Museum and the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center) in their second stop of the camp. At the hospital, foreign students have personally experienced various TCM therapies such as huo-long-jiu therapy, lei-huo-jiu therapy, cupping andmoxibustion.
On the morning of the 19th, the students visited Yong Qing Fang, Lychee Bay Scenic Area, Guangdong Cantonese Opera Museum, and other places to learn about traditional Lingnan culture.
The last stop was Guangzhou Zisun Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. There the students learned about the standardized process of producing traditional Chinese medicine decoction pieces.
拔罐、艾灸、火龙灸、雷火灸……这群留学生这样体验中医药文化
5月18-19日,由国家留学基金管理委员会主办,广州中医药大学承办,华南理工大学、华南农业大学、华南师范大学、广州医科大学协办的“感知中国·感受中医”文化体验营在广州举行。
本次活动旨在让更多的国际友人认识、了解中医,将中医发扬光大,让中国文化和精神深入人心、走向世界。
青蒿抗疟故事中感受中医药力量
广中医的中国政府奖学金生、智利籍博士研究生雷法作为学生代表发言,他分享了自己的中医求学之路——23年前,他开始学习中国武术,就此与中国文化结缘。后来经过了9年的汉语语言学习和运动科学学士、硕士学习后,2022年来到广中医攻读博士。他希望通过参加此次活动,和大家一道学到更多的中医药防病治病的知识。
体验营的第一站是广中医青蒿中心博士后吴婉婷带来的中医药文化讲座《“抗疟”历程,中医药不缺席》。讲座后,同学们在专业老师的指导下亲手制作了青蒿书签。
来自华工的巴拿马籍留学生曾家丽表示,她在巴拿马时就接触过中医药,她的奶奶是中国人,小时候生病时奶奶常常会为她熬制中药。
“中医药就像‘魔法’!”广中医20级中医专业的马来西亚籍留学生吴俍陞如是说道。他说,在马来西亚也有很多中医馆,他生病时常常会去看中医。
参访博物馆、医院、药企领略中医药魅力
中医药文化探究第二站同学们来到了广东中医药博物馆和广东省中医院大学城医院。在医院,留学生们亲身体验了火龙灸、雷火灸、拔罐以及艾灸等多种中医药传统疗法。
19日上午,留学生们参观了永庆坊、荔枝湾涌、广东省粤剧博物馆等,了解岭南传统文化。
体验营的最后一站是参访广州至信药业股份有限公司,留学生们了解了中医药饮片的标准化的制作过程。
