On May 10th, the Chinese Museums Association released the results of its 6th national museum operation evaluation (2019-2021), ranking the top museums in the country. Among the 13 museums that were deemed "excellent" were the Guangdong Museum, the Palace Museum, and the National Museum of China. This prestigious recognition means that the Guangdong Museum has joined the ranks of top museums in China.

Long history of ranking among the top in annual assessments

The museum operation evaluation is a professional assessment activity that evaluates the management and operation of museums over a three-year period. It is considered the most scientific and comprehensive indicator of the quality of museum operations in China. The Guangdong Museum has consistently ranked at the top in previous evaluations. In fact, back in 2014, it was ranked as the second-best museum in the country.

Established in 1959, the Guangdong Museum covers a total area of 77,000 square meters and has over 320,000 pieces of collection. It is one of the first batch of national first-level museums. Over the past 60 years, the museum has been dedicated to promoting cultural heritage protection, exploring the utilization of cultural relics, and focusing on people-oriented services. The museum has achieved high-quality development in collection management, academic research, exhibition display, education promotion, and dissemination services.

Earning multiple "first-class in China" titles

Since the introduction of the "China Museum Trending Topics List", Guangdong Museum has consistently ranked among the top ten out of over 6,000 museums in the country, earning it the title of one of the few long-term "internet-famous" museums. But that's not all. Guangdong Museum has been recognized for its outstanding protection of cultural artifacts, museum management, academic research, exhibition curation, and knowledge promotion. 

Its collection boasts the best of Lingnan culture, encompassing history, art, revolution, nature, and more. It is the museum with the most extensive collection, richest categories, and most distinctive features in South China. Guangdong Museum is also part of the "smart museum" pilot program, one of the three national initiatives. The upcoming Guangdong Cultural Relics Protection Technology Center at Guangdong Museum will become the largest cultural relics "hospital" in South China.

When it comes to exhibition curation, Guangdong Museum was the first in the country to advocate and implement the curator system, strengthening the exhibition selection mechanism and focusing on creating a series of exhibitions under nine major themes, such as "World Civilization", "Archaeology in China" and "World Art". It is also the only museum in the country to have won the "Top Ten Boutique Displays" award for ten consecutive years. By establishing a mobile museum, it serves over 2 million visitors in tournament exhibitions every year.

In terms of knowledge promotion, Guangdong Museum is one of fifteen museums selected as a youth education demonstration site in China, with the largest youth  activity center in South China. It has extensive education cooperation with schools and research institutes of all sizes.

Firmly rooted in Lingnan, Guangdong Museum uses the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a base to inherit and carry forward outstanding traditional Chinese culture, with far-reaching influence even overseas. According to the directors of Guangdong Museum, they will continue to enhance their museum operation capabilities, inherit the Chinese culture, expand its cultural influence, and contribute to the development of museums nationwide.

不只是“网红”，粤博迈入国内一流博物馆行列

5月10日，中国博物馆协会对全国第六次博物馆运行评估（2019-2021年度）一级博物馆评估结果进行公示。其中，广东省博物馆（以下简称“粤博”）与故宫博物院、中国国家博物馆等13家博物馆评估结果为优秀，这意味着粤博迈入国内一流博物馆行列。

历年评估结果均排名前列

据悉，博物馆运行评估是针对博物馆在三年周期内的管理运行状况开展的专业评价活动，是目前对中国博物馆运行质量进行评价的最科学完善的权威指标。粤博在历年博物馆运行评估中，均排名前列。2014年，粤博在全国一级博物馆运行评估中排名全国第二。

粤博成立于1959年，占地总面积7.7万平方米，藏品总数达32万余件（套），是首批国家一级博物馆。六十多年来，粤博推进文化遗产保护，探索文物活化利用，坚持服务以人为本，在藏品管理、学术研究、陈列展示、教育推广和传播服务等方面实现高质量发展。

粤博具有多个“中国一流”

自“中国博物馆热搜榜”推出以来，粤博在全国六千余家博物馆中一直稳居前十，成为全国为数不多长期霸榜的“网红馆”。除此之外，粤博具有多个“中国一流”：一流的保护管理水平、一流的学术研究水平、一流的展览策划水平、一流的教育推广水平。

在馆藏方面，粤博集岭南文物之大成，汇聚历史、艺术、革命、自然等诸多种类于一体，是华南地区藏品数量最多、品类最丰富、特色最鲜明的博物馆。广东省博物馆智慧博物馆建设是国家三大试点之一。即将在粤博建成的广东省文物保护科技中心将成为华南地区最大的文物医院。

在展览策划方面，粤博在国内首倡和实施策展人制度，强化展览选拔机制，重点打造“世界文明”“考古中国”“世界艺术”等9大主题的系列展览，成为国内唯一一家连续10年获得中国博物馆界最高荣誉的“十大精品陈列”评选相关奖项的博物馆。粤博还搭建广东省流动博物馆平台，通过巡展每年服务观众超过200万人次。

在教育推广方面。粤博是国内十五个博物馆青少年教育功能示范点之一，成立华南文博界最具规模的“青少年活动中心”，与大中小学校、科研院所广泛开展教育合作。

粤博立足岭南大地，以粤港澳大湾区为基点，传承并弘扬中华优秀传统文化，影响力远触海外。粤博相关负责人表示，今后粤博将继续提升业务能力，赓续中华文脉，扩大文化影响力，为全国博物馆发展贡献粤博力量。
