On April 20th, the "Bookish Lingnan" Reading Activity and 2023 Guangdong World Book Day Theme Event was launched at the Sun Yat-Sen Library of Guangdong Province. The event announced several key reading activities and reading reports, including 2022 Guangdong Reading Index Report and 2022 Guangdong Public Library Development Report. According to the reports, in 2022, the comprehensive reading rate of adult residents in Guangdong was 94.79%, and the daily reading time for E-book was three times that of paper books.
Various reading activities
To organize more resident reading activities is an important part of China's 14th Five-Year Plan and 2035 vision target, and it has been included in government work reports for ten consecutive years.
The 2023 "Bookish Lingnan" Reading Theme Event will offer various activities to create a reading boom in Guangdong, such as the "Bookish Lingnan" selection event, "Reading in Rural Areas" activity, and "Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Southern China Book Festival" series activities, as well as the "New Curriculum Reading Campus" project for Guangdong's youth students.
Award reading promoters
According to 2022 Guangdong Reading Index Report and 2022 Guangdong Public Library Development Report released at the event, the comprehensive reading rate of adult residents in Guangdong was 94.79% in 2022, and the daily reading time for E-book was three times that of paper books.
In addition, there are a total of 150 public libraries at or above the county level in the province, with a combined building area (only counting the main library) of 1.7314 million square meters, receiving 85.4793 million visitors in a year.
At the event, the first "Reading Promotion Award" was presented to ten individuals and organizations who made outstanding contributions to the reading promotion. This is expected to encourage reading in society.
Enhance the influence of reading activities
2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the Southern China Book Festival. Throughout the year, the festival will carry out a series of activities to celebrate its 30th anniversary. In April, it will launch its first celebration activity on World Book Day (April 23), inviting famous authors such as Liu Sifen, Lin Gang, and Wang Yuewen to communicate with readers. Many other online and on-site reading activities will be held throughout the year to make Guangdong a province of reading.
In 2023, Guangdong will improve its institutional mechanisms, establish joint meetings on reading at the provincial, municipal, and district levels, integrate various public cultural service resources to encourage reading and sharing books. The province will also innovate activity methods, vigorously promote "Internet + publishing" and "Internet + reading", enhance brand effects, enhance the influence of reading activities such as the Southern China Book Festival, and encourage all sectors of society to pay attention to, love, and participate in reading.

4月20日,“书香岭南”全民阅读暨广东省2023年“世界读书日”主题活动在广东省立中山图书馆举办启动仪式,现场发布了多项重点全民阅读活动,包括《2022广东省全民阅读指数报告》《2022年广东公共图书馆事业发展报告》。报告显示,2022年,广东成年居民的综合阅读率为94.79%,电子读物阅读日均时长是纸质读物的三倍。
举办各类全民阅读主题活动
深化全民阅读活动是国家“十四五”规划和2035年远景目标纲要的重要内容之一,已连续十年被写进政府工作报告。
2023“书香岭南”全民阅读主题活动,将组织开展“书香岭南”评选活动、“书润乡村”阅读活动、“庆祝南国书香节三十周年”系列活动、广东省青少年学生读书行动“新课程阅读书香校园建设”项目等,多措并举掀起广东的阅读热潮。
表彰有贡献的阅读推广人
根据现场发布的《2022广东省全民阅读指数报告》和《2022年广东公共图书馆事业发展报告》,2022年,广东成年居民的综合阅读率为94.79%,电子读物阅读日均时长是纸质读物的三倍。
此外,全省150个县级以上公共图书馆共有建筑面积(只计总馆)173.14万平方米,全年进入图书馆的总人次合计8547.93万人次。
在“书香岭南”全民阅读暨广东省2023年“世界读书日”主题活动上,还举行了南国书香节首届“阅读推广奖”颁奖仪式,表彰有突出贡献的阅读推广人和集体各十位,鼓励在全社会营造爱读书、读好书、善读书的浓厚氛围。
提升全民阅读活动影响力
2023年是南国书香节创办三十周年。南国书香节将在全年开展“庆祝南国书香节三十周年”系列活动,并在4月首先推出2023南国花正开“4·23世界读书日”全民阅读系列活动,邀请刘斯奋、林岗、王跃文等名家,在花城文学院、新华书店、校园等开展文学对谈、讲座、读者见面会;开展“名家有曰”云上见面会、广州公益阅读系列活动和“阅见世界”阅读打卡活动,打造线上线下的全年性阅读嘉年华,“领读”书香广东。
2023年,广东省将健全体制机制,推动建立省市区各级全民阅读联席会议制度;进一步整合省内各类图书馆、职工书屋、农家书屋、新型阅读空间等公共文化服务资源,实现悦读、共享;创新活动方式,大力推进“互联网+出版”“互联网+阅读”;提升品牌效应,增强南国书香节等全民阅读活动的影响力,引导社会各界关注全民阅读、热爱全民阅读、参与全民阅读。
