China unveiled development plans of Qianhai, Hengqin at the beginning of September. A business opportunity promotion conference was held on September 16th in Guangzhou, aimed at boosting Guangdong’s economic and investment exchange with Russia and Belarus amid the further development of the Guangdong - Hong Kong -Macao Greater Bay Area.

Fang Lixu, President of China Council for the promotion of international trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT Guangdong), expressed his hope to build closer cooperation mechanisms between Guangdong, Russia and Belarus.

“We should seize the opportunity and work together in Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, because these two Zones are outstanding platforms for promoting business opportunities and tightening communication among enterprises”, said Fang. He added that more efforts should bemadeto strengthen cooperation on the Great Stone China-Belarus industrial park, trade communication on low-carbon energy, digital economy and cross-border e-commerce as well as transportation communication.
Andrei Popov, Consul General of Belarus in Guangzhou, addressed that Guangdong Province and its capital, Guangzhou, have always been one of the largest users of Belarusian products. He also shone a spotlight on Guangdong enterprises’ involvement in the construction of Great Stone China-Belarus industrial park. “The President of Belarus signed a new decree to increase preferential treatment for enterprises in the Park in June this year. One of the priorities is to enhance unmanned technology, 5G, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology projects, which are precisely the areas where Guangdong enterprises have obvious advantages. We invite the Guangdong business community to develop more win-win cooperation with us”, said Popov.
“Russia and South China have significant potential in terms of export & import, and in terms of cultural, scientific, educational, and tourist exchanges”, said Evgeni, business representative of Consulate General of Russia in Guangzhou.
The event also introduced a Russia-China Greater Bay Area Fund which was jointly launched by Guangdong and Russia, with an overall investment of 1 billion USD.
Regardless of the impact of Covid-19, YoY growth of trade turnover between Guangdong with Russia and Belarus still reached 1.33% and 22.51% respectively in 2020.
This event was hosted by CCPIT Guangdong, Officials from the Russian Consulate in Guangzhou, Belarus’ Consulate in Guangzhou and entrepreneurs from China, Russia and Belarus attended this meeting.
