Shenzhen took the eighth place in an open data index ranking covering the world’s important cities, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
The ranking was released by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences at the Data Elements Forum of the 2021 World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai on Saturday.
Shanghai maintained the top spot in the ranking for the second straight year. Nine Chinese cities havemadeit into the top 20 global cities on the list, with Guiyang, Guangzhou, Beijing and Qingdao taking the fifth, seventh, ninth and 10th places, respectively.
The other global cities that entered the top 10 include New York, Chicago, Seoul and Los Angeles.
It is reported that the open data index is the world’s first professional index focusing on data openness and data value release of important global cities, has attracted worldwide attention and became a barometer of global urban data openness since it was first released in 2019.
The index is evaluated in four dimensions with 77 evaluation indicators, including basic guarantee layer, open quality layer, user use layer and value release layer.
According to Fan Jiajia, deputy secretary-general of the Green Digital Development Research Center of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the reason why Shanghai ranks first is that it scores relatively high on its four evaluation dimensions. In terms of user use layer, Shanghai scores the highest, followed by Shenzhen, as per the report.
The report points out that Shanghai has carried out a series of laws and regulations and has gained achievements in open data applications represented by inclusive finance. But there is a certain gap between Shanghai and other international cities such as London in terms of data supply quality.
It is reported that Shanghai has so far opened up more than 5,000 pieces of public data, built eight benchmark projects and lent 70 billion yuan (US$10.8 billion) of inclusive finance loans.
