On September 27th, the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday concluded. Preliminary estimates show that Guangdong province recorded 24.817 million tourist visits and tourism spending totaled 12.55 billion yuan, up 28.9% and 27.6%, respectively, compared with 2025 on a comparable basis. The number of visitors to the 100 monitored rural tourism sites and ancient villages also increased by 64.2% compared with 2025 on a comparable basis.
In Jiangmen, Chikan Overseas Chinese Ancient Town centered its Mid-Autumn celebrations around the theme "Moonrise over Chikan," featuring a giant moon installation, with the century-old Qilou (arcade buildings) bathed in a dreamy moonlit glow. In Shantou, the traditional Chaoshan custom of Bai Yue Niang (worshipping the Moon Goddess) served as the centerpiece, with immersive moon-worship experiences created across multiple settings. In Jieyang, the 2026 Jieyang Ancient City cultural program, themed "Vibrant Ancient City, Harmonious Jieyang," offered visitors an authentic taste of Chaoshan life and Lingnan culture. Rural tourism also grew significantly faster than the provincial average, emerging as one of the most notable areas of growth in Guangdong's cultural and tourism sector during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

Urban micro-vacations grew alongside the nighttime and performance economies. The Super Strawberry Music Festival was held in Nansha, with hotel bookings around the venue rising 62% year on year. Nansha Garden Hotel, for example, tapped into the festival buzz by launching a range of hotel-plus offerings to attract young visitors and was fully booked for three consecutive days.
Sample survey results show that tourists across the province spent an average of 505.8 yuan per person during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. Day-trippers spent an average of 337.4 yuan per person, while overnight visitors spent 1,082.4 yuan, with overnight visitors accounting for 22.6% of all tourists. Per-capita spending by overnight visitors was more than three times that of day-trippers, highlighting the importance of encouraging longer stays and increasing the overnight visitor rate to drive future tourism revenue growth.
