In November this year, the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held in Shenzhen. On the evening of September 2nd, media representatives from around the world visited the Guangzhou Museum of Art (GMA) to tour the special exhibition titled "Guangzhou Through the Millennia: A Special Exhibition Marking 2,240 Years Since the City's Founding and 1,800 Years of Its Name," gaining deep insights into the city's thousand-year urban heritage.

For centuries, a thriving commercial heritage has formed the bedrock of Guangzhou. In the exhibition's "Millennium Commercial Capital" section, the city's defining trajectory of "thriving on its port and establishing itself through commerce" unfolded sequentially across the display cases—from the gathering of rare treasures in the ancient metropolis of Panyu (now Guangzhou) and the pioneering maritime trade administration system during the Tang and Song Dynasties to the prosperous scene of "mounds of silver and money" at the Thirteen Factories during the Qing Dynasty.

In the eyes of Aminath Namza, Chairperson of Public Service Media (PSM) of the Maldives, what impressed her was not only the bustling trade, but also the city's steadfast commitment to its cultural identity. She noted that for centuries, Guangzhou has remained connected with the world and upheld its tradition of openness, successfully absorbing new ideas while preserving its cultural foundation.

Aminath Namza remarked that through the visit, she observed how Guangzhou honors its cultural and historical heritage while simultaneously embracing modernization, adding that this was precisely what she hoped to learn from Guangzhou and bring back home.

Vannak Chea, Director of the Overseas News Department at Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), noted that as China stands as one of the world's major economies, nations worldwide seek to understand it as deeply as possible. He expressed that through the exhibition, he gained insights not only into Guangzhou's history, but also into China's broader development from the past to the present. 

外媒嘉宾在广州“城脉千年”展里读懂了什么？

今年11月，APEC第三十三次领导人非正式会议将在深圳举行。9月2日晚，来自世界各地的媒体代表走进广州艺术博物院，参观“城脉千年——广州建城2240年得名1800年专题展”，读懂广州千年城脉。

长久以来，千年商脉是广州城市的底色，在展览“千年商都”篇章，从番禺都会珍奇荟萃，到唐宋市舶制度开先河，再到清代十三行“银钱堆满”的盛景，广州“因港而兴、因商而立”的脉络在展柜间渐次清晰。

在马尔代夫公共服务媒体主席Aminath Namza看来，令人印象深刻的不只是繁华商贸，更在于这座城市对自身文化特质的坚守。“数个世纪以来，广州始终与世界相连，延续对外开放的传统。它吸收全新思想的同时，还守住了自己的文化底色。”

Aminath Namza坦言，通过参观，她看到了这座城市既传承了文化与历史遗产，又拥抱着现代化。“这正是我希望从广州学到并带回去的东西。”

柬埔寨新闻社海外新闻部主任Vannak Chea则感叹：“如今中国已是全球主要经济体之一，各国都希望尽可能深入了解中国。通过展览，不只是了解了广州的历史，也让我看到了中国从过去到现在发展。
