On July 9th, the day following the launch of the 2026 Global Writers in Guangdong Program, seven writers from six APEC member economies, namely Indonesia, South Korea, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam, embarked on an immersive exploration of science and technology at the Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum.

Shaped like a giant ship and clad in a liquid metal skin, this museum is one of Shenzhen's "Ten Cultural Facilities of the New Era." Its striking futuristic aesthetic offered the writers their first window into China's technological innovation.

Inside the "Hello, World" exhibition hall, a seven-meter-diameter silver spherical screen hangs in mid-air like an "intelligent pupil." The writers simply stepped onto the sensor zone, and within seconds, their smiling faces appeared on the screen. Vietnamese writer Nguyen Khac Ngan Vi could not help exclaiming that the moment she entered, she was instantly reminded of Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey."
What impressed South Korean writer Lee Byung-ryul most was the earthquake rescue robot. He said, "What struck me was not the advanced technology itself, but the spirit it conveys—a belief in using every possible technological means to pull people out of danger and into safety."
As someone living alone, Lee said that such technological safeguards provide exactly the sense of security he needs most. He described his visit to the science museum as a "completely eye-opening experience." He had initially thought the museum was just a futuristic-looking building, but upon entering, he discovered that it embodies Shenzhen's commitment tobuilding a community with a shared future for humanity and enhancing the common well-being of humanity.
