On the afternoon of June 9th, the final bell of the last examination marked the successful conclusion of the three-day 2026 National College Entrance Examination (gaokao) in Guangdong Province. Outside examination venues, parents who had waited for hours welcomed their children with heartfelt celebrations. Having finally cast off the pressure of three years of preparation, many students had already mapped out their vacation plans, including expressing gratitude to teachers, spending time with family and friends, and traveling with classmates.

At the Guangzhou No. 2 High School examination site, one student completed all gaokao subjects after finishing the politics examination. He could not hold back his emotions and burst into tears upon walking out, saying in a choked voice, "I hope all efforts will be rewarded." Many families had already prepared celebratory dinners to mark the end of the exam. The parent of a student told reporters that the past three years had been challenging for the child, and the family had prepared a table of favorite dishes for a reunion dinner and heart-to-heart conversation.

During this year's gaokao, a video of a student in Shenzhen bowing to waiting parents after leaving the examination venue quickly went viral online, resonating with people across the country. In a later interview, the student said, "This is the first time I've seen such a large gathering. I was genuinely surprised to see so many parents here to welcome us." Moved by the sight of parents waiting for hours under the scorching sun, the student expressed gratitude through a respectful bow. The simple gesture reflected appreciation for years of family support and served as a response to the care shown by the whole city.

During this year's gaokao, parents demonstrated an increasingly mature and rational approach to accompanying their children through the examination process. Respectful and orderly support became the norm at examination sites. Many parents waited quietly with sunflowers in hand or dressed in clothing symbolizing good wishes, leaving the area in an orderly manner after seeing their children off. People from all sectors of society also joined efforts to support the exam. Nearby businesses and local residents voluntarily reduced noise levels and avoided the peak-hour crowd. This citywide display of care and cooperation reflected the warmth and inclusiveness of urban life.
