On June 3rd, the Shenzhen Digital RMB Application and Innovation Space welcomed its first overseas visitors, as a delegation of more than 20 central bank representatives from Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, including Brazil, Cabo Verde and Mozambique, paid an official visit.

In 2020, Shenzhen's Luohu became the first district in China to issue digital RMB red envelopes, marking the start of China's legal-tender digital currency pilot program. On May 21st this year, Shenzhen's first Digital RMB Application and Innovation Space was officially unveiled in Luohu, where the district released its third batch of scenario opportunities for 2026 in the digital renminbi field, covering 15 key innovative application scenarios.

At the space, members of the delegation toured displays showcasing the application of the digital RMB in key livelihood-related and industrial sectors, including cross-border consumption, wholesale and retail trade, and prepaid fund supervision. From convenient access to digital RMB hard wallets for overseas visitors and smart contracts that safeguard prepaid funds, to Project mBridge applications in supply-chain scenarios, a series of mature use cases were vividly presented through immersive experience devices and videos. Many representatives stopped for a closer look and exchanged views with staff on site from time to time, gaining a direct understanding of the digital RMB's practical value in serving the public, supporting businesses and empowering industries.

Antónia Bernarda Lopes, an executive board member of Banco de Cabo Verde, successfully applied for a digital RMB hard wallet on site using only her passport in just two minutes. The smooth and convenient experience left a deep impression on her. "I was deeply impressed by the convenience and security of the digital RMB," she said after the experience. "What interests me even more is that what is being presented here is not just a payment tool, but an entire digital financial ecosystem that can empower government services, people's livelihoods, industry and many other fields. This offers important reference value for central banks in Portuguese-speaking countries as they explore the application of digital currencies."
