Recently, a handwritten reply letter from French President Emmanuel Macron has brought Zhanjiang's ecological protection practices back into the international spotlight.

In 2024, Frederic Barbier, General Manager of Zhanjiang Saint-Hua Glass Container Co., Ltd (SGD Pharma's subsidiary in China), together with experts from Zhanjiang Bay Laboratory and representatives from the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (CCI France Chine), co-authored an all-English popular science book on mangroves, "Zhanjiang Mangroves: Forests on the Sea". The book was forwarded to Macron through SGD Pharma's headquarters. Upon receiving the book, Macron wrote a personal reply expressing his concern for the protection of Zhanjiang's mangroves.

Zhanjiang boasts China's largest mangrove nature reserve, and the city's total mangrove area reaches 6,667.79 hectares. As the mangrove ecosystem continues to thrive, this wetland has become a premier habitat for rare migratory birds. According to the monitoring data, the number of bird species in the reserve has increased from 194 in 2002 to 316 today.

Macron's reply has brought China and France closer together in the ecological field. In 2022, SGD Pharma joined the Zhanjiang Mangrove Wetland Conservation Foundation and launched the Mangrove Together initiative, which aims to plant 100,000 mangroves by 2030. Recently, officials from the French Consulate General in Guangzhou and a delegation from the Chinese and French business communities made a special trip to Jinsha Bay in Zhanjiang, where they planted mangrove seedlings by hand, reaffirming their green commitment through tangible actions.

法国总统马克龙写信点赞中法企业生态保护实践　

近日，一封来自法国总统埃马纽埃尔·马克龙的亲笔回信，让湛江的生态保护实践再次走进国际视野。

2024年，湛江圣华玻璃容器有限公司（SGD Pharma在华子公司）总经理法得利，联合湛江湾实验室专家及中国法国工商会代表共同编写了全英文红树林科普书籍——《湛江红树林，海上森林》，并经由SGD Pharma集团总部转呈给马克龙。收到书后，马克龙亲笔写了回信，表达了对湛江红树林保护的关注。

湛江拥有中国面积最大的红树林自然保护区，全市红树林面积达6667.79公顷。随着红树林生态系统的持续向好，这片湿地已成为珍稀候鸟的“五星级家园”。监测数据显示，保护区内的鸟类种类已从2002年的194种增至如今的316种。

马克龙的回信，拉近了中法两国在生态领域的距离。早在2022年，SGD Pharma集团便加入了湛江市红树林湿地保护基金会，并发起“Mangrove Together”倡议，计划到2030年种植10万株红树。近期，法国驻穗总领馆及中法工商界代表团专程来到湛江金沙湾，亲手种下红树幼苗，以实际行动续写“绿色约定”。
