Recently, the Shiziyang Channel project, a mega infrastructure project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), reached another key construction milestone. The installation and closure of all transverse beams on the main towers have been completed. The project has officially entered a new phase of superstructure construction, laying a solid foundation for the efficient advancement of the project.

At around 8 a.m. that day, the final segment was slowly lifted off the ground by tower cranes and steadily raised toward the top of the tower. After approximately one and a half hours of operation, the last steel transverse beam achieved millimeter-level precision during closure, laying a firm foundation for subsequent superstructure construction and the overall progress of the bridge project.

As the first double-decker composite road passageway in the Pearl River estuary, the Shiziyang Channel stretches about 35 kilometers in total. It links Nansha of Guangzhou to the west and Shatian and Humen of Dongguan to the east. As a key control project of the Shiziyang Channel, the Shiziyang Grand Bridge is designed as a suspension bridge with a main span of 2,180 meters crossing the river in one leap, and a double-deck structure with 16 lanes. Once completed, the bridge will set five world records among double-deck suspension bridges: main span length, number of lanes, tower height, anchorage diameter, and main cable diameter.

At present, half of the construction period for the Shiziyang Channel has been completed. The progress of auxiliary works including interchanges and approach bridges has exceeded 50%. Construction activities such as box girder erection and bridge deck installation are moving forward steadily, and the outline of the channel is now clearly visible above the Pearl River estuary. The tower columns and 6 transverse beams of both the eastern and western main towers of the Shiziyang Grand Bridge have all been completed. This year, preparations for cable saddle installation and catwalk construction are underway, with plans to have the pilot cable cross the river. A string of key construction works will keep driving the project forward.
Upon completion, the Shiziyang Channel will greatly ease traffic pressure on Humen Bridge and Nansha Bridge. It will also accelerate integrated development of the GBA, enhance regional core competitiveness, and inject strong impetus into the high-quality development of Humen.
