The Chaoshan dialect film "Dear You" will hold a market screening at the 79th Cannes Film Festival on May 15th. This production from Guangdong aims to showcase Chaoshan culture and Chinese-style familial warmth to a global audience.

Since its release on April 30th, this small-to-medium-budget film has emerged as the dark horse of the 2026 May Day holiday season due to its sincere emotions and authentic rural texture. On May 9th, its box office surpassed 100 million RMB, making it the first feature film in Chinese cinema history starring non-professionals to reach this milestone. By its 11th day of release, it secured a "grand slam" by sweeping the daily charts in box office, attendance, seat occupancy, and pre-sales.

Directed by Lan Hongchun, a director without a formal background in film, and featuring an entirely non-professional cast, the film is presented entirely in the Chaoshan dialect. It integrates cultural symbols such as "Qiaopi" (correspondence and remittance documents from overseas Chinese) and "Gongfu tea," revitalizing "Qiaopi"—inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register—into a powerful emotional vehicle. The story follows a Chaoshan grandmother, Ye Shurou, who waits for her husband who went to "Nanyang" (Southeast Asia), and her grandson Xiaowei, who travels to Thailand to find his grandfather, eventually uncovering a long-hidden white lie. Over 90% of the plot is based on real stories of overseas Chinese, exploring themes of family loyalty and universal perseverance.

The Cannes Film Festival serves as a premier platform for global cinematic exchange. The participation of "Dear You" not only opens doors for international distribution and collaboration but also provides a window for the world to understand Chaoshan culture and the warmth of the Chinese countryside.

《给阿嬷的情书》5月15日登陆戛纳国际电影节

国产潮汕方言电影《给阿嬷的情书》将于5月15日在第79届戛纳国际电影节进行市场放映，把潮汕文化与中式温情展现给全球观众。

这部中小成本粤产影片自4月30日公映后，凭借真挚情感、乡土质感成为2026年五一档最大黑马。5月9日票房正式突破1亿元，成为中国影史首部由素人主演、票房破亿的故事片；上映第11天更首次斩获单日票房、观影人次、上座率及预售票房“大满贯”冠军。

这部由“非科班导演”蓝鸿春执导、全员素人主演的影片，全程以潮汕方言呈现，还融入了侨批、工夫茶等潮汕文化符号，将世界记忆遗产“侨批”活化成情感载体，生动展现潮汕文化独特魅力。影片以一封跨越半个世纪的侨批为线索，讲述了潮汕阿嬷叶淑柔守候“下南洋”丈夫，孙子晓伟远赴泰国寻亲，最终揭开一段善意谎言的温情故事。片中90%以上情节源自真实华侨故事，既展现了潮汕侨胞的家国情怀，也深挖了亲情与坚守的普世主题。
