【大美广东】Guangzhou’s 300-year-old Kengkou Lettuce Festival Kicks off
传承300余年的广州坑口生菜会开锣
Art and Culture | On March 13, the Kengkou Lettuce Festival kicked off in Kengkou Village, Chongkou Subdistrict of Guangzhou’s Liwan District. With a history of more than 300 years, the festival is among Guangzhou’s first batch of intangible cultural heritage items. Held from the 24th to the 26th day of the first lunar month, the event draws many residents from Guangzhou and Foshan to pray for blessings at the Guanyin Temple. The 26th day, known as the “Opening of Guanyin’s Treasury,” is considered especially auspicious, when people make wishes for wealth and good fortune. This year’s festival also features new highlights, including a themed market stretching through Kengkou Village. Visitors can explore various cultural products and lettuce dumplings. #artandculture
