Rooted in the frontline for nearly 20 years, National People's Congress (NPC) deputy Yu Lianxiang has shuttled between mining workshops and rural fields. She has not only broken through technical bottlenecks in traditional industries but also revitalized the natural environment through a "technology-plus" approach. As a professor-level senior engineer at the Institute of Resources Utilization and Rare Earth Development under the Guangdong Academy of Sciences, she brings her innovative achievements to both factory floors and the vast countryside, forging a pragmatic and steadfast path in fulfilling her duties.

For years, Yu has maintained a steadfast focus on environmental protection and resource utilization. Previously, over 4,000 small workshops in the Sijiaolou gemstone processing zone in Boluo, Huizhou, operated in a scattered manner. Milky-white cutting wastewater was discharged directly into rivers, raising serious concerns about water quality. As a sci-tech commissioner, Yu proposed building an eco-friendly industrial park for the centralized treatment of scattered pollution sources. Subsequently, the Sijiaolou International Jewelry Creative Industry Park was established, featuring a unified solid waste and wastewater treatment center. Utilizing the resource recycling technology developed by her team, the park has transformed former pollution hazards into a catalyst for green transition.
With the 2026 national "two sessions" approaching, Yu is drafting new suggestions. Her focus lies in advancing the construction of sci-tech stations in the demonstration area surrounding the "Two Mountains" (Nankun and Luofu mountains). "The demonstration area boasts exceptionally rich natural resources, and we must avoid homogenized development," she said. Yu hopes to inject more technological elements into the area, such as drone mountain patrols, agricultural remote sensing monitoring, and smart robot services. By integrating science popularization on environmental protection and processing technologies, along with DIY activities, she aims to offer tourists an interactive, visually engaging, and educational experience.
