On January 26, the fifth session of the 14th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress opened. According to the government work report, Guangdong's GDP grew by 3.9% in 2025, marking the 37th consecutive year that the province has ranked first nationwide.
The "stability" of Guangdong lies in a dynamic balance built on a solid industrial foundation and a complete industrial chain. With all 41 major industrial categories and nine trillion‑yuan-level industrial clusters, the province has more than 76,000 industrial enterprises above designated size and produces 90% of China's drones. Together, these strengths serve as powerful "stabilizers" against external economic headwinds.
The "advantage" of Guangdong is best reflected in its upgraded industrial structure. By the third quarter of 2025, the added value of high‑tech manufacturing accounted for 33.8% of the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size, 2.7 percentage points higher than five years ago.
The "newness" of Guangdong comes from its drive to shape new advantages in high‑quality development through innovation-driven growth. Total R&D spending in 2025 is expected to reach 535 billion yuan, with an R&D intensity of 3.6%. The province has topped China's regional innovation capability rankings for nine consecutive years. Newly established enterprises in the "four new economies"—new technologies, industries, business forms and business models—make up nearly 38% of the total, while digital economy enterprises grew 25.41 % year‑on‑year. The Shenzhen–Hong Kong–Guangzhou innovation cluster was, for the first time, ranked as the world's largest innovation cluster. Guangdong continues to lead the nation in industries such as artificial intelligence, robotics, biomedicine, integrated circuits, and ultra‑high‑definition video.
The "vitality" of Guangdong stems from its diverse, collaborative, and dynamic ecosystem. The province thrives on its robust base of 20 million market entities—of which 96.45% are privately owned. These entities are quick to seize market opportunities with boldness and adaptability. In 2025 alone, Guangdong hosted more than 300 production and marketing matchmaking events, drawing 46,000 enterprises and generating cooperation intentions worth over 170 billion yuan.
