Starting January 1st, 2026, public medical institutions in Guangdong Province will systematically roll out the "one registration valid for three days" policy for general outpatient services to enhance public convenience. This policy is meant to solve the problem of patients having to register repeatedly due to the delayed release of test results, thereby reducing the cost and inconvenience of seeking medical care for the public.

Specifically, when a patient registers for a general outpatient visit for the first time and the outpatient physician orders medical examinations or lab tests to clarify a diagnosis or evaluate the progression of a condition, but the results cannot be issued within the physician's scheduled consultation hours on that day, the institution is required to schedule a free "follow-up registration" within three days. This follow-up visit allows the physician to interpret examination or lab test results, prescribe medication, and complete subsequent medical services without the patient having to pay another registration fee.
The policy also clearly defines its scope and limitations: it applies to general outpatient services (including specialist outpatient clinics) at all public medical institutions across the province, including traditional Chinese medicine hospitals and maternal and child healthcare hospitals, and institutions may choose to broaden the scope of application at their discretion. However, in principle, it does not apply to expert clinics, emergency departments, fever clinics, VIP clinics, or cases involving cross-department consultations. Other situations that are not covered include cases where the initial visit already resulted in a complete diagnosis and treatment (such as a clear diagnosis with medication prescribed) or where patients need to consult additional specialized departments.
Regarding follow-up registration methods, the policy provides flexibility for both patients and medical institutions. Patients are encouraged to prioritize booking the nearest available consulting hours with their initial outpatient physician. If the initial outpatient physician's schedule cannot meet the patient's needs, a registration may also be made with another physician of a similar professional title within the same clinical group or department.
