Guangdong's aid-Xinjiang doctors take root in Kashi to build homegrown medical team

In Kashi, 57-year-old Ms. Reyhan underwent surgery performed by aid-Xinjiang doctors from the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong, being finally free of suffering caused by a long-standing rectal prolapse and other ailments, and was discharged three days after surgery. This is a microcosm of how Guangdong's medical assistance protects patients in the border areas.

Since 2015, the Sixth Affiliated Hospital has sent over 20 medical professionals to Kashi. In 2021, when the doctor Wu Xiaojian became the director of the First People's Hospital of Kashi, he led efforts to subdivide the surgical division into five subspecialties. The 9th group of aid-Xinjiang doctors contributed their own expertise. They introduced new equipment, optimized workflows, achieved multiple technological breakthroughs, and implemented various measures to enhance the hospital's service and management. In 2025, support continues with this aid team.

Guangzhou First People's Hospital began its aid work in 2002. To date, it has dispatched nine groups of medical experts, including over ten multidisciplinary experts, to consistently safeguard the health of people in Xinjiang. In the course of aid work, they have not only helped local physicians pass the licensing exams through teaching and introduced new medical technologies locally, but have also built deep friendships with local doctors and their families, adding a warm human touch to aid work.

Guangdong's aid-Xinjiang doctors do more than treat diseases; they look to the long term for medical system building. Through the mentorship programs, training, and remote supervision, they nurture local talent and form stable teams. At the same time, they develop disciplines, standardize processes, introduce advanced concepts, standards, and equipment, and enhance research mechanisms to integrate technologies into hospital development.

Through a series of measures, Guangdong's aid influence endures locally. In Kashi, they have built a homegrown medical team, allowing more patients to enjoy high-level diagnosis and treatment in their hometown.
