Given Dongguan's role as a major hub for foreign trade in China, to what extent do tariff fluctuations impact local enterprises in Dongguan? During visits to export-oriented businesses in the city, reporters learned that companies are taking proactive steps to address tariff-related challenges, with some even experiencing growth in orders. The Dongguan municipal government has also rolled out supportive policies to bolster trade development and logistics, aiding businesses in expanding their global market reach.
Dongguan Xinrui Underwear Co. Ltd. exports its products to Europe, the U.S., Southeast Asia, Japan, and South Korea. "Previously, our monthly shipments ranged from 50,000 to 80,000 sets. Now, despite tariff changes, shipments have risen to 80,000–100,000 sets, reflecting an upward trend in orders," said Zhang Xiaoyan, the company’s production supervisor. By leveraging big-data market analysis, Xinrui identified strong demand for its products in European and American markets. enhancements in material selection and manufacturing processes have further improved product quality, driving the company's counter-trend growth.
Linktrans, located in Dongguan's Nancheng District, offers cross-border e-commerce logistics and overseas warehousing services. The company operates in five countries, with over 25 global warehouses spanning 150,000 square meters.
"Our shipments primarily consist of apparel and electronics," said Tian Cunde, site manager of Linktrans's Shenzhen warehouse. "The reputation of 'Made in China' as a mark of quality ensures sustained global demand." To handle pre-May Day shipment peaks, the Shenzhen warehouse recently expanded by adding 10,000 square meters of high-standard storage space.
To help local exporters navigate challenges, Dongguan Port Group has introduced multiple support measures. From May 1st to July 31th, 2025, the group will extend the free storage period for export-loaded containers at its terminals to 30 calendar days. Additionally, it will provide one month of free public bonded warehousing services for Dongguan-based enterprises facing U.S.-bound shipment delays or returns due to tariff impacts during the same period.
Furthermore, Dongguan Port Group will offer cross-border procurement assistance to businesses struggling with unsold inventory or lost orders amid shifting trade conditions. Through a "factory-Dongguan Port Group-foreign client" model, the state-owned enterprise will prioritize purchasing home appliances, 3C electronics, apparel, supermarket goods, and daily necessities, providing comprehensive support services.
