On the morning of December 20th, the 2024 Shantou Food Culture Week kicked off at the Small Park. The event features 68 intangible cultural heritage food projects, alongside exhibitions showcasing the "flavors of the world" from cities such as Chengdu, Shunde, Macao, Huai'an, and Chaozhou. Other interactive activities include yingge dance, Chaozhou opera performances, popular song performances, master chefs' talks on Chaoshan cuisine, a "Taste of Shantou" video exhibition, and food-themed paper-cutting. These activities promise to offer both locals and visitors a grand celebration that blends food and culture into one vibrant feast.
Shantou is a city that was born by the sea, established through its port, and flourished due to its overseas Chinese community. It is a national special economic zone, a renowned hometown of overseas Chinese, and a sub-center city in Guangdong Province. Shantou is known as the "Home of Chaoshan Cuisine" and a "National Culinary Landmark City."
As a branch of Guangdong cuisine, which is one of the eight major Chinese culinary traditions, Chaoshan cuisine has its own distinctive flavors: it is light yet rich, fresh without being fishy, tender without being raw, and rich without being greasy. It is known for its health benefits and deep cultural significance. So, the city has become a popular destination for food lovers, attracting visitors who come "for a meal and to visit the city."
Shantou places great importance on the development of the Chaoshan cuisine industry, and the food sector is flourishing. The city is home to numerous renowned restaurants, famous chefs, and distinctive dishes. Currently, there are over 40,000 catering enterprises in the city, including nearly 50 nationally and provincially recognized top restaurants. The food service industry employs more than 500,000 people, and over 100 chefs have received prestigious culinary honors at the national and provincial level.

12月20日上午,“美食孤岛 世界味道”2024汕头美食文化周在小公园拉开帷幕。现场设置了68个非遗美食项目,还有成都、顺德、澳门、淮安、潮州“世界之味”城市美食图片展览、英歌舞巡游、潮剧表演、流行歌曲演唱、潮菜美食大师面对面讲座、寻味汕头视频展播、美食剪纸互动等活动,将为市民和游客带来一场集美食、文化一体的盛宴。
汕头是一座向海而生、因港而立、因侨而兴的城市,是国家经济特区、全国著名侨乡、广东省域副中心城市。汕头享有“中国潮菜之乡”“全国美食地标城市”美誉,作为中国八大菜系之一粤菜的一个分支,潮汕菜独具风味特色,清而不淡,鲜而不腥,嫩而不生,肥而不腻,健康养生、内涵深厚。是游客们“为了一顿饭,奔赴一座城”的网红打卡地。
汕头高度重视发展潮汕菜产业,美食行业蓬勃发展,拥有众多美食名店、名厨大师和特色佳肴,现有各类餐饮企业四万多家,其中国家级、省级餐饮名店有近五十家,餐饮从业人员超过五十万人,一百多名名厨获得国家、广东省烹饪荣誉。
