The national key project, Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Channel, which connects the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Taishan in Jiangmen city,is set to commence operations. As the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Channel open, Jiangmen is entering the era of "doublecross-sea channels," initially forming a "one-hour" commute circle. This milestone signifies a more balanced integration of Jiangmen's eastern and western regions into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) transportation network.
From the GBA's overall transportation layout, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, operational for six years, connects Hong Kong, Macao, and Zhuhai, increasingly supporting the region's development. The Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Channel extends the western reach of the bridge, forming a comprehensive corridor of connectivity among HongKong, Zhuhai, Jiangmen and Western Guangdong in conjunction with the bridge and the Guangdong Western Coastal Expressway.
The biggest beneficiary of the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Channel will be Jiangmen's western region. The passage begins in Jinwan District, Zhuhai, crosses the Huangmaohai waters, passes through Chixi Town, taishan, and ends in Doushan Town, taishan. The project spans 31 kilometers, with a 14-kilometer sea-crossing section. Once operational, the drive from Hong Kong to Taishan in Jiangmen will take only about an hour.
The reduced travel time between Taishan and Hong Kong also shortens the emotional distance between Jiangmen's Wuyi region and its overseas Chinese communities. Known as the "Capital of Overseas Chinese," Jiangmen has over 5.3 million overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao residing in 145 countries and regions worldwide. In Jiangmen, taishan is recognized as "China's First Hometown of Overseas Chinese." Historically, Many Wuyi natives embarked on their overseas journeys from Jiangmen's inland rivers to Hong Kong and Macao before venturing further abroad. For many, Hong Kong and Macao served as the last stop before leaving their motherland.
Recently, a group of overseas Chinese from Taishan previewed the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Passage. Li Zhisi, Secretary-General of the Western Panama Chinese Association, expressed his excitement: "The opening of the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Channel brings unprecedented development opportunities to our hometown." Zeng Ronghuan, chairman of the Zeng Clan Academy in San Francisco, Shared his pride in the tremendous changes in his hometown and hoped more overseas Chinese would return to invest and contribute. Mei Yujuan, secretary-General of the Associacao Geral dos Cantoneses do Brasil, expressed a desire to leverage resources and influence to support the development of the hometown.
