Recently, Guangzhou has been filled with a series of exciting performances, including the 9th Cantonese Opera Festival, the 21st Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Cantonese Opera Day, and the academic symposium on "The Inheritance and Development of Cantonese Opera." These cultural events have been a great feast for opera enthusiasts. In visits and interviews, it is discovered that many communities in Guangzhou now have a strong atmosphere of Cantonese opera culture. Some communities offer free Cantonese opera performances every day, making it an integral part of the residents' daily lives and enriching their spiritual and cultural experiences.

In the Liwan District, from the soft, melodious Cantonese tunes drifting through the streets and alleys to the stunning performances of Cantonese opera and songs on the stage, it is filled with the lingering charm of Cantonese music. At the Lychee Bay Grand Theater in Liwan Lake Park, audiences leisurely enjoy the melodious tunes of Cantonese opera, immersing themselves in the allure of traditional art.

"I live nearby, and whenever I have free time, I come to enjoy the performances. It's a great way for the public to have fun together without being charged. You just come and listen. The shows play an important role in promoting Lingnan culture," a local resident told the reporter. The Lychee Bay Grand Theater hosts free Cantonese opera performances every day from 2:15 to 4:45 in the afternoon, year-round without a break, attracting a large number of Cantonese opera enthusiasts.

These Cantonese opera performances are usually organized by Cantonese opera enthusiasts. Wearing exquisite costumes, the performers use their outstanding acting skills and captivating vocals to immerse the audience in the melodies and stories of both classic Cantonese opera pieces and modern works.

Now 75 years old, Ms. Guo is a regular on the stage, performing at the Lychee Bay Grand Theater every week. "I come to sing every Wednesday and Thursday, and some of my partners perform every day. The audience listens attentively and especially loves watching the excerpts from the operas," Ms. Guo happily told the reporter.

With the growing popularity and promotion of Cantonese opera, more and more people are beginning to pay attention to and appreciate this traditional art form. It is reported that over 1,300 grassroots Cantonese opera troupes are active in the streets, alleys, and community parks of Guangzhou. These troupes collectively stage nearly 80,000 performances every year, providing a local Cantonese opera experience for both residents and tourists, allowing them to fully enjoy the art form right at their doorstep.
