The third China-Arab States Young Political Leaders Forum took place in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province from November 27th to 28th, bringing together over 100 young political representatives from 21 Arab countries. This event marked the first large-scale multilateral forum focusing on youth within China-Arab relations, aiming to foster open and inclusive exchanges while jointly building a China-Arab community with a shared future.
Amid a world undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, with regional conflicts and deglobalization trends intersecting, the collective rise of the Global South has injected fresh impetus into the transformation of the international order. Against this backdrop, China-Arab relations have rapidly advanced. Since the release of the declaration following the first China-Arab States Summit in 2022, strategic communication between the two sides in global governance and multilateral cooperation has deepened, achieving full coverage of the Belt and Road Initiative across all 22 Arab countries.
As the saying goes, strong ties between nations hinge on connections between their people, and youth exchanges are pivotal to this bond. At the forum, Shahrazad Abu Tayeh, senior advisor to the Independent Election Commission of Jordan, remarked, "China-Arab youth carry the mission of building new bridges and exploring pathways for national development together." This collaborative foundation dates back over 2,000 years to the Silk Road and remains a vital link in the enduring friendship between the two sides.
In recent years, interest in China has surged among Arab youth. During the forum, a Tunisian overseas student shared her experiences in China on social media after visiting the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, noting that an increasing number of Arab youth are eager to visit and learn more about the country. Meanwhile, a delegate from Lebanon, after visiting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), commented, "This area's achievements are a microcosm of China's development. We hope to draw inspiration from China's experience to advance our own nations."
Mechanisms such as the China-Arab Youth Development Forum, the China-Arab youth friendship ambassador programs, and the China-Arab Consortium of Universities Exchange Mechanism have further strengthened exchanges between the two sides. As many participants emphasized, youth are the cornerstone of nations, and China-Arab cooperation relies on their contributions to address global challenges. Through this generational relay, Chinese and Arab youth are shaping a new era of partnership within the China-Arab community with a shared future.
