On November 23rd and 24th, the "In Pursuit of Beauty" 2024 Guangzhou public cultural product distribution event took place at the Aokou Community in Liwan District, Guangzhou. This event treated residents with a cultural feast merging intangible cultural heritage crafts and magic performances, showcasing the elegance and diversity of aesthetic living.
At the event, intangible cultural heritage experience booths attracted steady crowds. Activities like bamboo Tuanshan (round fan) weaving and traditional rubbing techniques drew enthusiastic participation, turning spectators into practitioners. Booth organizer Wu Xiaoyuan explained that the rubbing technique, also known as "chuanta" or "chuita," involves using rice paper and ink to replicate text and patterns, describing it as "an ancient photocopying method." She added, "Today's activity allows people to personally experience the ingenuity of our ancestors."
Another highlight was the science magic show. The show captivated over 800 audience members, translating complex scientific concepts into engaging magic acts. The performance especially fascinated children, sparking people's widespread interest in both science and magic and invigorating local science education efforts.
According to the organizers, the "In Pursuit of Beauty" initiative aims to bring more high-quality cultural resources closer to residents' homes.
