China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that President Xi Jinping would attend the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro from November 17th to 21st, followed by a state visit to Brazil. As one of South America's most influential nations, Brazil collaborates actively with China under the BRICS framework and on broader international platforms, demonstrating shared responsibilities as two major countries.
The Chinese nationals and overseas Chinese in Brazil, with a history dating back over a century, currently number around 300,000, predominantly residing in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. They are active in sectors such as trade, dining, and retail. With frequent state visits and the upcoming G20 Summit, “the overseas Chinese anticipate deeper bilateral cooperation in areas such as economics, technology, and culture. Many hopes for more facilitations, such as visa-free policies,” said Jiang Youyang, Secretary-General of Associação Chinesa do Brasil.
A unique addition to this year's China-Brazil dialogue might be a new symbol of bilateral friendship. Jiang mentioned the possibility of pandas coming to Brazil as part of cultural exchanges, saying, "We hope to see pandas in Brazil soon as a symbol of China-Brazil friendship."
Established in 1980, the Chinese Association of Brazil focuses on safeguarding the rights of the Chinese community in Brazil. Its education division has recently advanced Chinese cultural promotion and Mandarin language education for second-generation Chinese in Brazil. "We organize numerous performances and cultural exchanges with artists from both countries each year, showcasing the vibrant cooperation between China and Brazil in culture," Jiang noted.
China is Brazil's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching 181.5 billion US dollars in 2023. Over 300 Chinese enterprises operate in Brazil, spanning electric vehicles, infrastructure, and energy sectors. Jiang emphasized the promising future for cooperation in renewable energy, agricultural technology, and artificial intelligence. The Chinese Association of Brazil plans to enhance its role as a bridge between the two nations, fostering mutual understanding and providing comprehensive support for business.
