On August 30th, it was announced at the Guangdong promotion event for the Expo 2025 Osaka that the Expo will take place from April 13th to October 13th, 2025. The theme of the China Pavilion will be "Building a Community of Life for Man and Nature—a Future Society of Green Development". Guangdong will participate in the China Pavilion activities by hosting a three-day Guangdong Week in late June 2025.
The China Pavilion is located in the A7 plot of the International Exhibition Area at the Osaka Expo, covering approximately 3,500 square meters. It is one of the largest self-built foreign pavilions at the Expo. According to Shu Huan, Deputy Director of the Department of Exhibition Management, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the main structure of the China Pavilion has already been completed and is among the first of the large self-built pavilions abroad to reach this stage, showcasing the strong capabilities of Chinese manufacturing.
The exterior design of the China Pavilion is inspired by traditional Chinese book scrolls. It incorporates three main elements, including bamboo, Chinese characters, and scrolls, to reflect the essence and cultural spirit of Chinese civilization, such as the laws of nature and the unity of humanity and nature. This design aims to provide visitors with a unique and immersive experience.
During the Expo, besides the opening and closing ceremonies, the China Pavilion will hold a National Pavilion Day and various provincial, municipal and district-level activity weeks or days. So far, 30 provinces, cities and districts (including autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and special administrative regions) plan to organize activity weeks or days at the China Pavilion, which will be the largest number of provincial, municipal and district-level activities held at a Chinese pavilion at an overseas Expo.
Last year, the trade volume between Guangdong and Japan reached 60.134 billion dollars, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the total trade between China and Japan. Chen Xiaofeng, Chairman of the CCPIT Guangdong Committee, noted that Guangdong maintains a close economic and trade relationship with Japan. Many Japanese companies, including Toyota, Panasonic, Daikin, and Meiji, have chosen to invest in Guangdong. Additionally, cities in Guangdong such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Zhuhai, Shantou, and Zhongshan have established friendly ties with cities in Japan.
At the Osaka Expo, Guangdong will promote the region through various initiatives. These include showcasing its ecological environment under the "Green and Beautiful Guangdong" initiative, hosting international cultural exchange events through the "Window to Guangdong", holding a comprehensive health industry matchmaking event, and presenting intangible cultural heritage performances. Cultural exchange activities will feature performances of Cantonese opera, tea art, and Chaozhou embroidery, while also enhancing cultural exchanges in areas like animation and gaming between Guangdong and Japan.
Chen Xiaofeng emphasized that, focusing on sectors such as health production and operations, service provision, and information promotion, as well as industries closely related to health like circular economy, digital economy, and environmental protection, Guangdong will organize supporting economic and trade activities to facilitate industry connections and promote collaboration. Especially based on the platform of the Osaka Expo, efforts will be made to deepen cooperation between Guangdong and the Osaka metropolitan area in fields such as smart manufacturing, new energy, new materials, and fine chemicals.
