Lingnan: Beauty Beyond Borders | Near Zhoutouzui in #Haizhu, #Guangzhou, there is an alley called “Overlook the Sea and Sky”, where the legendary Ball Tower is located. During the late Qing Dynasty, when the British gradually took control of the #Guangdong Customs, they built the "Guangdong #Customs Club" here, which was once the most spectacular building on the south bank of the #Pearl River.
Next to the Ball Tower, there was a weather signal station tens of metres high, on which people could see as far as Humen with a #high-powered telescope, hence the name of the alley. Whenever a storm was approaching, the station would hang a wind ball signals. So Guangzhou residents habitually used the #English translation of the English word "Ball" to call this building "Ball tower".#SplendidLingnan
