The Hong Kong Palace Museum celebrated its first anniversary since its opening to the public. Since its official opening on July 3, 2022, the museum has welcomed over 1.2 million visitors.
Located in Hong Kong, a vibrant international city where Eastern and Western cultures converge, the Hong Kong Palace Museum provides an opportunity for Hong Kong residents and tourists from around the world to appreciate exquisite cultural relics up close, enhancing Hong Kong's cultural confidence.
Since its opening, the museum has seen a continuous stream of visitors, with Hong Kong residents comprising a significant portion of the tourists. Louis Ng, the museum's director, revealed that more than half of the visitors were local Hong Kong residents. "I have noticed that Hong Kong residents have a strong passion for excellent traditional Chinese culture and a genuine desire to better understand it. Many residents have even visited the museum multiple times," he said.
The visitors span across different age groups, including the elderly, middle-aged, and youth. Louis Ng drew great inspiration from the enthusiasm shown by young people towards traditional culture. In the future, the Hong Kong Palace Museum plans to explore more diverse means of presentation to attract greater participation from the younger generation.
"In October this year, we will collaborate with six local young artists from Hong Kong. They will study the cultural history of the Forbidden City and create multimedia exhibits. Our focus going forward is to involve more young people in our work and leverage their creativity and talent," he explained.
The museum also places significant emphasis on "going global". Louis Ng elaborated, "We have established collaborations with many European and American countries, and we plan to expand these partnerships to regions such as the Middle East and Central Asia."
With the full resumption of travel between Hong Kong and the mainland, the popularity of the Hong Kong Palace Museum continues to soar. In the future, the museum will further strengthen cooperation with the mainland, striving to bring more outstanding exhibits to Hong Kong and share them with a wider audience.
