The Cheung Chau's annual Bun Festival 2023 will be held during the traditional festival of the Cheung Chau Da Jiu Festival, one of the national intangible cultural heritage projects in Hong Kong, and the heated Bun Scrambling Competition will be the final event. The competition originated from the traditional folk customs of the Cheung Chau Da Jiu Festival. Five "bun mountains" made of lucky buns are set up to worship the Northern Emperor. After the festival, lucky buns are offered to residents. The closer the lucky bun is to the top of the "bun mountain", the more luck it brings. Since 2005, the Hong Kong government has transformed the custom into a cultural and tourism sports event in the form of a competition. The Festival is popular among citizens every year, including a series of activities such as the selection and the final of the Bun Scrambling Competition, and the climbing carnival, attracting over 10,000 participants.
