#TheGreatBeautyofGuangdong In the 1920s and 1930s, Doumen Old Street was a hustling spot filled with more than 200 shops. Many famous goods of the shops were sold at home and abroad. With its glazed windows, tiles-roofed houses, columns, and traditional architecture with Lingnan characteristics, the old street has integrated the Eastern and Western cultures, creating the most impressive scene in this waterside town: Doumen.
In the Republic of China, a devastating fire damaged Doumen Old Street. Later on, the street was widened and shops were rebuilt, recreating a fusion of Eastern and Western architectural styles. The street has also developed into a living specimen of Lingnan architecture.
The western-style buildings and the ancient shops can make its visitors feel an amazing charm that transcends time and space. The profound historical inheritance gives the old street an exuberant vitality that penetrates time.
