One year ago, Zhu Xiaopeng, a youth from Chaoshan, produced a trailer for "Yingge", an independent hand-drawn animation themed on Yingge dance, the intangible cultural heritage of his hometown. Although the trailer lasts for one minute, it has got more than 100,000 clicks, which shows recognition from internet users and enhances the confidence of the original animation producer.
Zhu, together with his team, produced the 3D animation short film "Jie" recently, receiving more than 1.5 million clicks online. The 9-minute film tells that humans conduct a trial on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence by integrating science fiction with Chinese traditional elements like "The Book of Changes(Yi Jing)", a movable type system, and ancient Chinese philosophy. "Jie" has gained a giant leap in story editing and production after 14-month efforts from the whole team.
Zhu said that the charm of animation lies in that it delivers more freedom to animators compared with other types of work and it deserves hard work.
