On Shamian Island of Guangzhou, ancient trees are still flourishing and modern European-style complexes stand up to witness vicissitudes throughout centuries. The tiny island, which covers just 0.3 square kilometers, has 54 major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level. Recently, various ancient buildings on the island open to the public.
