On December 10, an Ecuadorian food festival was held in Guangzhou by Pro Ecuador, the official institution charged with promoting exports and investments, to introduce Ecuadorean products to local company and media representatives.

More than 30 local guests attended the event to taste Ecuadorian foods, including coffee, shrimp, cod, bananas, potato chips, and chocolate. Participants were also invited to share their feelings after enjoying the delicacies.

"Located on the equator and facing the Pacific Ocean, Ecuador is endowed with abundant sunshine and ideal climate, which provides a favorable growing environment for bananas, flowers and other agricultural products," said Paúl Peñaherrera, Commercial Counselor of the Consulate General of Ecuador in Guangzhou.

Paúl Peñaherrera specially recommended the Ecuadorian white prawn. He introduced that Ecuador is a pioneer in the shrimp farming industry on the American continent. "More than 50% of Ecuador's shrimp are sold to China," Paúl Peñaherrera said.

Pan-fried cod was also one of the most popular dishes at the food festival. In 2016, Ecuador exported about 2,047 metric tons of cod, with an export value of 4.26 million dollars.

According to Ecuadorian statistics posted by the Chinese Embassy in Ecuador, Ecuador's total exports to China in 2020 amounted to 3.193 billion US dollars, of which exports of shrimp, bananas, frozen fish and cocoa were approximately 2 billion US dollars.
