SHENZHEN ranked third in National Day holiday consumption, following Shanghai and Beijing, according to online food ordering platform Meituan's holiday report.
The top 10 cities also include Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Suzhou and Xi'an. Wuhan's holiday expenditure ranked first in growth rate, up by 61.5 percent year on year.
The report showed intraprovincial tourism is the first choice of holiday travel. Nationwide, 22.4 percent of residents spent the holiday traveling to other cities and 77.6 percent traveled locally.
With the country's improvement of anti-pandemic situation, strengthened confidence on consumption and recovery of holiday economy, Meituan's data showed catering, accommodation, tourism, entertainment, and travel during the holiday increased by 29.5 percent year on year and 51.6 percent over the same period of 2019.
In terms of catering consumption, hot pot orders increased by 29.9 percent on average year on year. Hot pot orders in Shenzhen increased by 65 percent, ranking second following Guangzhou which saw a 78 percent increase.
In addition to food, the holiday staycation economy also witnessed increase in orders for flowers, yoga exercises and DIY handiworks.
