On August 28, the first seven-core lotus flower in the world was spotted in Guangzhou's Lotus Mountain, with six cores surrounding the remaining one in the center, all of which share the same stem and flower.

According to experts in the field of lotus, the common lotus has one flower with one core, this seven-core lotus is the same plant as the five-core lotus that appeared on August 20, both of which are from the same variety called N.‘Innerlight’.
Multiple lotus flowers on one stalk and multiple-core lotus are not replicable nor inheritable, so they can not be produced by artificial cultivation. The frequent appearance of multiple-stalk and multiple-core lotus in Lotus Mountain may be related to the living conditions here, such as its environment, climate and soil. The recent phenomenon of multi-core occurred in the same plant many times may be related to the genetic background of this variety.
In order to preserve the beauty of the seven-core lotus, the scenic area plans to make it into a plant specimen. It will be exhibited together with last year's "seven lotus flowers on one stalk" specimen in the Lotus Mountain Cultural and Creative Exhibition hall in early September. Meanwhile, the scenic area plans to apply for Guinness World Record certification for the seven-core lotus.
