Some residents who have returned to Guangdong from other provinces recently found that their health codes turned yellow and are now wondering how to get a green one back. On August 12, Guangdong CDC released a guideline to address public concern.

Q: Why does my health code turn yellow?
A: There are two situations in which you will get a yellow health code. In the first case, a yellow code indicates that you have been to a place where a confirmed case or an asymptomatic carrier has once stayed during the same period.
In the second one, your health codes will turn yellow if you have come back to, or arrived in Guangdong from cities with high-risk areas, or cities rated as medium-risk with local COVID-19 transmission.
Q: What should I do to have a green code back?
A: The yellow code holders are urged to ensure personal protection and go to the nearest medical institution for a nucleic acid test as soon as possible. If the test result is negative, the green code will be back, according to Guangdong’s latest COVID-19 control and prevention regulations.
The province’s comprehensive tier-2 hospitals all have set up fast testing tracks for yellow code holders. The hospital list can be found on the WeChat Official Account “粤卫平台” (pinyin: yue wei ping tai). Here are the detailed steps to get the list:
1. Click the “Nucleic acid testing service” (新冠检测服务) to search for the hospitals
2. Choose both the city and the district and then search
Guangdong CDC also calls on all people who have returned to or arrived in Guangdong from other provinces over the past 14 days to take a nucleic acid test within 48 hours upon arrival.
