A new footbridge linking Ersha Island and Wuyang New Town will be built across the Ershachong River, according to the Guangzhou Municipal transportation Bureau. Located between the Zhudao Hotel Bridge and Guangzhou Bridge, the Ershachong Bridge will cut the traveling time between Wuyang New Town and Ersha Island to 20 mins.
The Bridge will be 147 meters long and 15 meters wide, stretching from Jiangyue Road in Wuyang New Town to Qinglan Road in Ersha Island. It will serve for non-motorized transportation between the Donghu area, Wuyang New Town area and the Ersha Island, complementing the function of the existing 4 river-crossing passages, namely the Haiyin Bridge, Haizhu Hotel Bridge, Guangzhou Bridge, and Haixin Bridge.

Situated nearby a cluster of landmark buildings such as the Canton Tower and Xinghai Concert Hall, the Bridge will be built into a rather “low-profile” beam bridge. Designed under the theme “fish and water”, a 3.5-meter-wide glass surface decorated with colour ceramic glaze will be inlaid in the concrete bridge floor. When the nightfalls, beautiful lighting will add to the glamour of the glass surface. Residents can look forward to an upcoming bridge of elegance in the busy city.
In addition, the Bridge is set to ease the traffic pressure between Wuyang New Town and Ersha Island. It is estimated that there will be 8,058 pedestrians and 4,494 non-motorized vehicles crossing the Ershachong River per hour at peak times with the development of Wuyang New Town towards a new central business district.
